Signature:……………………………… Date:………………………. ABSTRACT Who is Nellie du Toit and what is the extent of her career as singer and voice teacher? The void in South African historiography in respect to the life and work of South African performing artists gave rise to investigate the career of Nellie du Toit. Known as one of South Africa’s most illustrious opera singers of the 1960’s and 1970’s, who made her career exclusively in South Africa, she is regarded as one of the most sought after voice teachers. Her career as singer spanned almost three decades. As voice teacher her career of over forty years is still ongoing. This study traces her biographical details chronologically beginning with her youth years in a very musical family. Her full-time music studies took place at the South African College of Music in Cape Town, from 1950 to 1952. Here her singing teacher Madame Adelheid Armhold and Gregorio Fiasconaro, head of the Opera School, were influential in laying the foundations for her career. After a period of over a year in England Du Toit was one of several young South African singers to contribute to pioneering opera in South Africa, often sung in the vernacular. -

Departamento de Materiales Especiales Área de Audiovisuales Informe final Proyecto ADAI: Digitalización y edición digital de las colecciones sonoras de Arístides Incháustegui, Hernan Ramón Mella y la Fundación Ángel Miolán 2013/100 Febrero 2016 Objetivo general Convertir de formato análogo a digital, además de la restauración y edición digital las cintas magnéticas en reel de grabación sonora correspondiente a las colecciones procedentes del artista Arístides Incháustegui, el músico Herman Ramón Mella Chavier y el político Ángel Miolán, con alto riesgo de perderse por la obsolescencia del formato y el avanzado estado de deterioro en que se encuentra el material, debido a condiciones inapropiadas de conservación a lo largo del tiempo. La importancia de recuperar estos documentos es debido a que algunos son únicos y es necesario su digitalización para su preservación en el tiempo, a la vez el acceso y la difusión al público. Las colecciones digitalizadas poseen distintas temáticas desde música clásica, típica, conferencias y charlas dictadas en el extranjero por lo cual nuestro repositorio con este proyecto cumple con su meta de salvaguardar la memoria nacional. Objetivos específicos 1. Restaurar los materiales que presenten estado de deterioro avanzado. 2. Capturar y editar de forma digital el audio de las cintas magnéticas. Actividades realizadas El proyecto entró en desarrollo en marzo del 2015 y finalizando en diciembre 2015, obteniendo los siguientes resultados: 1. Captura de 660 horas sonido con salida en formato Wav. Es el formato de audio original y contiene la calidad por ser utilizada en estudio de grabación y restauración a 44,100HZ frecuencia y 16 bits por minutos. -
