It is the 2nd largest manufacturer a. Cotton: and exporter in the world, after China. The share of textile and clothing Cotton is one of the most important cash crops and accounts for in India’s total exports stands at a significant 12 % (2018-19). India around 25% of the total global fibre production. In the raw material has a share of 5 % of the global trade in textiles and apparel. The consumption basket of the Indian textile industry, the proportion of uniqueness of the industry lies in its strength both in the hand-woven cotton is around 60%. The consumption of cotton is more than sector as well as in the capital intensive mill sector. The mill sector 300 lakh bales (170 kg each) per year.

Artisan must carry his/her passport swe Photograph and Award Certificate duly attested by the concerned Assistant Director from where the artisan belongs. 2. Original Certificate of Award to be shown by the artisan at time of allotment. No stall will be allotted without Original Certificate at time of allotment. 3. The selected artisan should reach the venue on 30.OL.2OI}. Only one helper other than artisan is allowed to sit in the stall. 4. Helper should be in the blood relation with the artisan or from the same village. None other than these will be allowed,f recommended as helper. If some other/unauthorised person other than the artisan/helper found on the stall during inspection/visit, the artisan will be debarred for participation in any marketing event for five years and the stall will be closed with immediate effect.

Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) INTRODUCTION The Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) is an attached office of Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. Its Headquarters are at West Block No.7, R.K. Puram, New Delhi-110066. It is a central nodal office to work for a) Socio-economic upliftment of the artisans and b) Supplement the efforts of the State Governments for promotion and development of handicrafts within the country and abroad and It has 6 Regional Offices at New Delhi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Chennai, Mumbai and Guwahati, and 5 Regional Design & Technical Development Centres at New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Banglore and Guwahati. There are 52 Handicrafts Marketing and Service Extension Centers at Burdwan, Gangtok, Siliguri, Sambalpur, Bhubaneswar, Deoghar, Madhubani, Ranchi, Agartala, Aizwal, Gauripur, Jorhat, Imphal, Itanagar, Kohima, Shillong, Agra, Saharanpur, Almora, Barabanki, Varanasi, Indore, Bhuj, Surat, Nagpur, Jagdalpur, Kolhapur, Aurangabad, Gwalior, Panaji, Mangalore, Mysore, Port Blair, Nagercoil, Salem, Pondicherry, Tirupati, Vijay Wada, Trichur, Trivandrum, Hyderabad, Hosiarpur, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Rewari, Kullu, Anantnag, Baramula, Leh, Srinagar, Udhampur and Jammu. The most important centres for block printing in India are Sanganer, Jaipur, Bagru and Barmer in Rajasthan, Bagh in Madhya Pradesh, Anjar, Deesa, Ahemdabad, Jetpur, Rajkot, Porbandar and Bhavnagar in Gujarat, and Pilakuan and Farukhabad in Uttar Pradesh.

MALLAREDDY: Will the Minister of TEXTILES वस्त्र मंरी be pleased to state: (a) whether Government has started Geographical Indications (GI) tagging of handicraft and handlooms for the benefit of weavers and artisans; (b) if so, the details of handicrafts and Handlooms covered under GI and the list of awardees of GI- tagged handicraft and handloom products; (c) whether the Government has set up GI help-desk in every Service Centre run by the Government for weavers and artisans and if so, the details thereof; (d) whether the Government has also launched a helpline for handicraft artisans; and (e) if so, the details thereof? उ配तर ANSWER वस्त्र मंरी (श्रीअ ज ) MINISTER OF STATE FOR TEXTILES (SHRI AJAY TAMTA) (a): Yes, Madam. (b): The details of handicrafts & Handlooms covered under GI and the list of awardees of GI-tagged handicraft and handloom products is as per Annexure-I & II. (c): The Government has not set up any GI help-desk in Service Centre run by the Government for weavers and artisans. However, Marketing & Service Extension Centres do provide support to artisans and weavers for registration of their crafts under GI. (d) & (e): Yes, Madam. The Government has launched a Toll Free helpline number 18002084800 for handicraft artisans on 5th May 2017. The services are available on seven days a week from 10.00 P.M. 6.00 PM in 7 languages.
