Golfing in – Country Members Returning “Home”

The Joburg Gems initiative recently welcomed twenty Swiss golfers to a two-week golfing trip to Johannesburg, in April this year. The group, named Amigo Reise 2014, was spearheaded by a former Randpark Golf Club member Sigi Loacker, now living in Switzerland, who rounded up his Swiss golf mates to enjoy some of South Africa’s finest golf courses, hotels and experiences.

The itinerary included eight rounds of golf at the five Joburg Gem member courses Bryanston Country Club, Royal Jhb & Kensington Golf Club and Randpark Golf Club. The group based themselves at Joburg Gems member hotel The Fairway Hotel & Golf Resort overlooking Randpark Golf Club’s 1st fairway. The hotel offers hotel rooms and also spacious self-catering golf and garden villas, each comprising of four en suite bedrooms, a kitchen, lounge and patio/braai area, which perfectly suited the Swiss group.

Other activities on their itinerary included visiting the Lion Park, SAB World of Beer and a guided Tour where the group where able to trace the footsteps of the great Nelson Mandela. The group also enjoyed dining out at various top restaurants all over Johannesburg, including the famous Butcher Shop & Grill in City.

Loacker was very pleased with the trip and commented: “The planning and organising was really great. The hotel as well as the golf courses met our expectations. We had quite a few people coming to SA for the first time and were pleasantly surprised about the whole tour. The infrastructure on the courses in the Joburg area has always been good and this has been confirmed to me again. The accommodation, the restaurants as well as the food especially the meat and the wines have a very high standard. We all had a great time and some have already informed me, that this has not been the last time for them visiting this area.”

Loacker went on to compliment their driver from the transfer company: “Lazarus our driver can definitely be recommended. We always felt very much looked after at all times.”

Amigo Reise 2104 also spent two nights in Sun City before returning home. This combination of golf in Johannesburg followed by golf and safari a short drive away in the North West or Limpopo Province is becoming more and more sought after in golfing itineraries.
