The Unconventional Book and Movie Guide for Aspiring Entrepreneurs

Hi there! I’m Drew Badger, the Founder of EnglishAnyone.com, and I’m so excited to help you on your entrepreneurial journey.

Starting a business can seem like a difficult and time-consuming process, but the truth is a business is nothing more than getting paid to solve a problem. (It’s not your website, your name, your business cards or any of the other things you might think you need for a “real business.”)

So, I’ve intentionally made this guide simple to show you that very little is actually needed to get started. The message is more important than the presentation. This guide took only a few minutes to write, and I delivered it to you with a free Google form on my site.

With that, here’s…

The Unconventional Book and Movie Guide for Aspiring Entrepreneurs

Rather than reading a bunch of “business books,” I created this guide to help you learn some of the most important lessons you’ll need to know to start and build a business in a fun, memorable way. We absorb lessons most easily through stories, so enjoy these movies and books, and learn their valuable lessons well!

The Five Movies

1. Unbreakable, starring Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson

The Lesson: Your opposite is waiting for you.

Just as you want to share information, others want to learn it. Have confidence in what you want to create, knowing that others are looking for exactly what you have. By not taking your chance to help people as an entrepreneur, you’re depriving them of a chance to reach their goals.

2. Jerry Seinfeld: Comedian, starring Jerry Seinfeld

The Lesson: Practice makes perfect.

Even pros aren’t perfect right out of the gate. It takes time to hone yourself, your product and your messaging. So watch as one of the best in the world hones his routine with his audience to deliver something he knows people will love.

3. Kinky Boots, starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Joel Edgerton

The Lesson: The product comes from the market, not you.

When you realize that you DON’T need to have an idea to start a business, entrepreneurship becomes a

LOT easier. This is counterintuitive for many people, so I’ll rephrase: The idea comes from your market, NOT YOU. Find out what your market’s problems are and deliver simple solutions.

4. Gattaca, starring , Uma Thurman

The Lesson: YOU decide who you become.

You may have been born a certain way, or even told – with mountains of evidence – what you can or can’t do. But these beliefs are only true if you believe they are. YOU decide what you can become.

5. Moneyball, starring

The Lesson: Rewrite the rules, and have the courage to be different.

When you see what others miss, don’t be afraid to stand alone. Then keep pushing until you change the world.

6. (BONUS) Men in Black, starring , Tommy Lee Jones

I’ve added this because there’s a scene in the movie where Will Smith’s character is being assessed to see if he’s qualified for the Men in Black. Watch it to see how he responds to various tests in his own way. (Search YouTube for “Men In Black - A Series of Simple Tests”)

The Five Books

1. Switch: How to Change Things When Change Is Hard, by Chip Heath, Dan Heath

The Lesson: When you understand how humans work, you can lead them to better outcomes.

Most of us want to change, or try something new, but we can be stubborn about it. The stories in this book will prepare you to change the minds and behaviors of the people you want to help.

2. Green Eggs and Ham, by Dr. Seuss

The Lesson: When you have a great product, don’t stop at the first “No.”

Most people give up too quickly. You must persist, expecting to hear many “No’s” before you finally get a “Yes.”

3. Kon-Tiki: Across the Pacific in a Raft, by Thor Heyerdahl

The Lesson: When you decide what you want, and take action, the universe conspires on your behalf.

When you truly decide to do something, even when you are unsure about the steps needed for success, take action anyway, and the universe will open doors for you. Keep moving and have faith! 2 © 2019 EnglishAnyone.com - www.EnglishAnyone.com englishanyone.com

4. Working with the Law: 11 Truth Principles for Successful Living, by Raymond Holliwell

The Lesson: The laws of success are as sure as the laws of physics.

Once you understand the laws we are all subjected to, businesses become a LOT easier to build.

5. Shh! We Have a Plan, by Chris Haughton

The Lesson: People will naturally come to you when you give them what they want.

There’s no need to push, or try hard, when you use the right bait for the right fish.

The lessons in this guide have all helped me create a successful business that helps millions of people. And these lessons can do the same for you!
