The study, which is a category- by-category ranking of the nation's leading colleges and universities, also places Washington in the top five for quality faculty among national univer- sities. The new overall ranking shows a significant climb for Washington — two years ago the University was not even in the study's top 25 and last year, Washington tied for 23rd place among national universities. The report appears in a special 32- page pull-out section of the Oct. 10 U.S. News. More than 1,000 college presidents, academic deans and admissions officers were asked to select the colleges and universities they believe offer the finest under- graduate education.
