Prior to our involvement with the MH:2K project, participation and engagement with young people had been somewhat patchy across Nottinghamshire County and Nottingham City. Whilst there had been some excellent work undertaken from numerous stakeholders across the system, including Nottinghamshire Healthcare Foundation Trust and respective Local Authorities, Commissioners struggled to pull this all together into something meaningful that could be used as a case for change and transformation. Engagement and participation is a key focus within our Joint Local Transformation Plan for Children and Young People’s Emotional and Mental Health, which is our local driver behind the national Future in Mind Report. When the opportunity presented itself to work with Involve and Leaders Unlocked on the MH:2K programme, we knew it was an opportunity not to be missed and would potentially provide rich and powerful information, not only for our Local Transformation Plan but also wider transformation and development work across the system. Our experience of working with Involve, Leaders Unlocked and the 30 Citizen Researchers has been truly inspirational.

Newsletter Issue 35 Newsletter December 2018 Over 80 students take part in the school production! See page three for the full report Executive Head Teacher’s Message Dear Parent/Guardian, As we approach the Easter break and the end of another successful term, I must first congratulate the Year 11 and Post 16 students on their maturity, commitment and hard work as we approach the summer public examinations. It is the staff and students that make our school a success and I am pleased to share that we are still on track for the school to be performing above the national average again this year. The attitude of our young people to learning is impressive and I am proud of how students have been working to support each other during this busy period, as a vibrant learning community. I would like to reassure parents at this busy exam preparation time that we are ensuring that there is high support for the students as well as challenge and our focus has been very much on student’s wellbeing as well as their learning, which has included offering student’s reward treats along the way! I would also like to take the time in advance to thank all of the staff and students who have signed up for the Easter revision sessions. This additional supported learning will help the students to achieve their best. As well as a high focus on learning, you will see in this publication that our careers programme is an important aspect of school life for all year groups, it has been a busy term for this area and we are extremely grateful for the ongoing support we receive from local employers, UCAS, colleges and universities, which offer support to the Year 11 and Post 16 students as they move on to the next stage of their education.

Meet the Governors of The Winstanley School Vivien Evans Chair of Governing Body (from June 2019) Governor type Community Governor I worked as a full-time secondary school teacher for 34 years in several different schools in Leicester City and Leicestershire prior to taking early retirement at the end of the 2014/15 academic year. During my teaching career I held various roles, including being a classroom teacher, Curriculum Leader, Language College Director, Assistant Principal and trainee Headteacher. I was appointed to the Senior Leadership Team at Groby Community College to achieve and maintain Specialist Language College status in partnership with Brookvale High School. In my role as Language College Director I took a lead in the college being twice awarded the International School Award as well as achieving International Baccalaureate World School status. During my last few years as Assistant Principal, I was responsible for the behaviour, attendance and punctuality of KS4 students and was also the designated Safeguarding Lead. In this role I also supported the college to achieve the Equalities Award. In retirement I am very keen to use my skills and experience to support The Winstanley School to be formally recognised as a provider of high quality learning for all students.
