Layla T. Hello, my name is Layla. I’m 10 years old. I’m starting middle school at Pond Road Middle School. I have been at this camp for 5 years. My favorite color is red. I like to play soccer, basketball, and tennis. If I didn't come to this camp then I would be very bored and I wouldn't have all the friends I made. A fun fact about me is that I love chocolate and cookie dough ice cream. In my free time, I play with my neighbors. I also like to make forts with my brother. Angelina V. Hello, my name is Angelina. I’m 12 years old. I go to Crockett Middle School. I’ve been going to Camp College since Friendly Froglets. I’m a photographer and a singer. Hope you enjoy the rest of the camp magazine and the rest of all the fun days ahead. Arielle W. WOOSH!! I shoot the ball and it just barely made it to the top left corner of the net. Hi, I’m Arielle. “One Thing” Reported by Niki Das

One great teacher that I have had is named Mrs. Lepard. She is my favorite teacher of all time. Mrs. Lepard is my favor- ite teacher because she is really outspoken and is very funny. She also invented a cool game to help other kids enjoy school. It is about Harry Potter, which just makes me like her more. There are point that you get for doing different things, and you can trade points in for prizes. You also make wands and get to design houses for you stuffed animal pets. Mrs. Lepard is such an interesting teacher. She even has funny folders for all her classroom files. It’s really hilarious! All of these reasons and more make me love Mrs. Lepard. That’s why she’s my favorite teacher in the entire world!

One Thing by Neel Das One thing I like to daydream about is giant cotton candy lollipop clouds. I dream that I am sleeping on one and then I eat it. It plays out the same every time. Actually the last time I dreamt it played out like this: I was sleeping on a giant cotton candy lollipop cloud, I woke up, ate the giant cotton candy lollipop cloud, fell out of the sky on to giant gumdrops, ate them, and passed out from too much candy. Then my dream ended.

Niki Das: Expressive Art is a really fun class. You explore different ways to paint and create art. Some examples are spong- es, ink, and watercolor pencils. You get to try out exam- ples of every kind of new thing that the teachers show you and then you get to take it home, unless it needs to dry. If it needs to dry, then you take it home the day af- ter. If it’s on a Thursday, you take it home on Monday. Dylan M’s Great List

There are many great classes at Camp College, such as Flying Objects, Camp Zine’, Juggling, and more! This is a list of my favorite classes. Get on the good side of a great story! 1. Camp Zine’

This class is great for writers. We make stories for the camp magazine. You don’t have to be that great at writing to do this class. There are many other things you can do such as making a poem, jokes, riddles, and interviews. I highly sug- gest this class to anyone who wants to have fun while writing.

2. Flying Objects

This class is Out-Of-This-World! You get to make a rocket. There are a few types of rockets you can make. You don’t al- ways catch your rockets, but it is still fun! The teacher is great and helps you with anything. This class is good for anyone A fun photo from the into building things. “Make It” Class.

One Thing by Mia K.

Candy is probably one of my favorite types of food. My favorite candy is Kit Kats. I like Kit Kats because they come in different flavors all around the world and I am determined to try each one. I also like them because their taste is very unique and the texture they have is amazing. Lastly I really like how the wafer in between the chocolate isn’t overpowered by the chocolate. That is why I really like Kit Kats.

The rest of Dylan M’s Great List:

3. Card Game Craze

Anyone can be in this class, from beginners to professionals. You get to learn a new card game everyday and you get to play others games you know already. Not only do you play classic card games like War or Rummy, you can play Uno and other games. This class is well-run by Mrs. Patty. I recommend this class to anybody who wants to learn or play card games.

4. Minecraft Mania

This is the craftiest class. We get to play Minecraft on a server that has been made for us by the talented Nicholas and Catherine. There are also competitions, such as this week’s P.V.P (Player Ver- sus Player). This class is great for anyone looking to have a great time playing Minecraft. Have an account before joining.

5. Archery

This class is all about archery (as you probably guessed). You get to fire REAL bows and arrows. It’s fun to see where your arrow ends up, either on the target or near a tree. I recommend this class to all who want to learn to fire a bow and arrow. Taught by the legendary Mr. Joe and ably assisted by Mr. Sam.

One Thing by Arielle W.

If I were able to travel to any country in the world, I would pick Greece. I would travel to Greece because it looks so beautiful. Also, I love how clear the ocean is. You can see through to the bottom! When I was in 6th grade I learned the Greek alphabet and it is my favorite alphabet because it sounds so cool! History isn’t my best subject, but the part I love about it is learning about Greek Mythology. All of the gods and goddesses are so fun to learn about! Also, one of my friends happens to be half Greek, and I would love to take her to see where some of her family came from.

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again

Date of Release- July 20, 2018 A movie review by Mia K. In 1979 young Donna, Tanya and Rosie graduate from Ox- ford University -- leaving Donna free to embark on a series of adventures throughout Europe. On her journeys, she makes the acquaintances of Harry, Bill and Sam -- the latter whom she falls in love with, but he's also the man who breaks her heart. In the present day, Donna's pregnant daughter, Sophie, dreams of renovating a “taverna” while reuniting with her mother's old friends and boyfriends on the Greek island of Kalokairi. Review- This movie to me was a tearjerker. I cried 3 times. To me this movie is very emotional because I grew up with the first movie Mamma Mia! and ABBA-- a band in the 1970s that the movie is based on. This movie is like seeing your mother for the first time and then seeing her for the last. If you watch the movie you’ll know what I am talking about. What I am saying is that this movie is one of the best I have ever seen.

I totally would recommend it.

summer! Something interesting about me is that my family and I take a lot of trips

CampStaff See you back you See back - to Disney. We went on one recently during the first two weeks of sum- “ mer. The rides there are fun, the food is great, and the family experience is even better. It’s amazing to smile and laugh over a meal or over a funny picture on a ride. Once, I lost my magic band on the ride Expedition Everest and my dad kept getting the pictures of the people who went in that car! It didn’t stop until they deactivated the band, which took a whole month or longer! The times I spent at Disney have been interesting to say the least (I don’t want to take up your whole day!). Maybe one day, you’ll find yourself at Disney!

Divergent A review by Arielle W. Veronica Roth’s story, Divergent, is about a girl, Beatrice Prior, who lives in a post-apocalyptic world after a war (present day Chicago). Once she turns seventeen, her and her peers have to take a test to see which faction best fits them. There are five factions, and each holds a different value above all others. Abnegation values selflessness, Erudite values intelli- gence, Candor values honesty, Amity values kindness, and Dauntless values bravery. Everyone is put in one faction to spend the rest of their lives and make their society work, but Beatrice (Tris) fits in more than one. This makes her a “Divergent”. Tris is my favorite character because she wasn’t scared even though being a divergent is seen as being very dan- gerous and a threat to their society. She stays strong and well… once you read it or watch it, you’ll find out! :-)

Avengers Infinity War

Creator: The Russo Brothers a Review by Maddie H. Avengers Infinity War, was an amazing movie. If you have not seen it you have to see it. It was one of the best movies i have ever seen, even though i have seen so many. The box office was 2.044 billion USD and their budget was $316–400 mil- lion. The score on Rotten Tomatoes is 91% of people liked it. Also, Avengers Infinity War is the second fastest grossing movie. Everyone from Iron Man to Rocket the Raccoon is in it, even Loki. That is my review of Avengers Infinity War. See it!

9 Watch Out! A funny incident that happened was the time I almost hit heads with a deer. One day, my friend and I were walking out of the driveway when deer come running past. I started walking towards the side of my house to see, then a deer comes run- ning and nearly hit my face! This day was really crazy.

10 Don’t Try This At Camp By: Layla T. and Angelina V.

Once upon a time, there were a group of friends and they talked the whole time un- til one of the girls had an auction for a pink Mentos. Then she said, “I’ll just put it in this PEPSI!!!!!” So she put the Mentos into the Pepsi and counts down from 3. “THREE-TWO-ONE.” Everyone screams and one girl put the Pepsi under the ta- ble, (smart move) but it wasn't so smart because the soda got all over the booth and spilled onto the floor which made a huge mess. Then we got in trouble and had to clean it up. So please, DO NOT TRY THIS AT CAMP, EVER!!!!!

11 Book Thoughts by Joey O I’ve read many books in my life. I’m going to rank the top three. The third best was And Then There were None by Agatha Christie because of the murders and crimes and in the end, you still don’t know who did it. The second best was Diver- gent by Veronica Roth because of the realistic writing of the narrative. My favor- ite book is The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin. The Westing Game is my favorite because of the mystery and that you can’t figure out the answer until the very end.

A Fall Memory by Joey O When I was six years old, I was getting ready to go to swim class. I was running to my bag to get change to buy a snack, when I tripped on a knap- sack and landed on gravel. My forehead was bleeding. A lot. I was taken to the nurse, where I got Band-Aids and ice. I had lunch and then my mom picked me up to take me to the hospital to get stitches. The stitches would come out in one week, I was told. The thing was that in one week, I would be on vacation out of state. Luckily, my uncle was and still is a medical doc- tor, so he took them out for me. One thing I remember thinking at the time was that I was sad I couldn’t swim for a week. Lesson learned.

Hope to see you all back here next summer!

Sadly I only keep in touch with about 3 of them. I needed to make new friends. Then I met them. We don’t have a name because we never really thought about it and we thought it was baby-ish for groups to call themselves a name when their not even trying to become famous or anything. They are so supportive. I know that I will never forget them. I will love them all. Thank you Erin, Nyla, Sasha, Mayomi, Sam, Liz, and all the others who have been my friends. 16 Book Review: Hunger Games

Author: Suzanne Collins

Book Review By: Niki Das

The book series The Hunger Games has three books in the whole series. The first book is called The Hunger Games, the second book is called Catching Fire, and the third book is called Mockingjay. The whole series is based on the fact that North America has finally with- ered and died, leaving just a few nations behind. One of those forgotten nations is called Panem. In Panem, there are 12 districts, and one Capitol. The Capitol controls the districts. In the Capitol, they like to keep everyone “entertained”, so they invented the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games happen once per year. They take one girl tribute and one boy trib- ute from each district, and stick them all in an arena so that they can fight to the death. The winner receives fame and riches, and a large house in Victor’s Village. There is a Victor’s Vil- lage in every district. The Capitol chooses the tributes by taking their name when they turn eleven, and for every year that passes, putting their name in another time. So, when they are 11, 1 time, 12, 2 times, and et cetera. The people’s last year to get chosen for the Hunger Games is when they are 18. After that, no more Hunger Games for them! People may also get food and grain in exchange for putting their name in more times, also called Tessera or Tes- serae. Katniss Everdeen becomes a player in the Hunger Games when her sister’s name is called for the Hunger Games, and she volunteers. The male volunteer is named Peeta Mel- lark, who apparently has had a long-standing crush on Katniss for a very long time. He reveals this in an interview with Caesar Flickerman before they go into the arena. Caesar Flickerman is a Capitol representative to interview the tributes before they go into the arena and ask them questions about different things, about the Games and not. Katniss and Peeta are chosen from District Twelve. Every district has its own skill that they they specialize in. District Twelve is coal mining. Sadly, Katniss’s father dies from coal mining, which also meant that Katniss’s mother lost some of her sanity. Katniss and another boy, named Gale, have to support their families by illegally hunting and selling some of their meat to the people in the Hob, which is a black market, and the people that live in the Seam. Katniss and Peeta go into the arena, and fight many people. I can’t tell you what will happen in the end, though. Will Katniss and Peeta die? Or stay alive? If you read this book, you will find out!

18 Two Art Classes Reported on by Niki Das There are many classes in the camp to think about. But you only get to do six! Three in the morning, and three in the afternoon. So, out of six classes that you get to do, you must have a favorite class. These are some of my favorite classes, and maybe you could try them out if they appeal to you! One of my favorite classes is Intro to 3D Art and Sculpture. It is taught by Mr. Ap- plesauce. He introduces new materials for art that you could use to make something, gives you that material, and sometimes, tells you the kind of art that is. For example, he gives you a piece of balsa foam and says, “This is called a relief sculpture.” Then you get to sketch out a design and start the relief sculpture! If you are artsy, then this is the class for you! Another one of my favorite classes is Set Design, which is also taught by Mr. Applesauce. In Set Design, you get to make the set for the camp show, but there’s a whole lot more to it than just that! You can think up your favorite movies, team up with other people or fly solo, and make a diorama of that movie/book. It also gives you an opportunity to let your creative juices flow. This is a really fun class and I recommend it for anybody who is creative or likes theater. I hope that you check out these classes, and in some cases, sign up for them next summer.
