  • Thank You to Everyone Who Came Along to Our Fourth Senior Schools’ Fair on Saturday
Thank you to everyone who came along to our fourth Senior Schools’ Fair on Saturday. You answered the invitation to attend with customary Hazelwood enthusiasm and we were delighted to welcome over 220 parents to the event. It was lovely too to be able to welcome a growing number of families from outside of the immediate Hazelwood family to the Sports Hall, fulfilling the intent of making it a local community event. The 35 schools who came along were both impressed and bowled over by the turnout and the professional way in which the Fair was staged. They all said that it was one of the best that they attend (and some of them attend quite a few!) They were also all full of praise for the five Year 8 pupils who were asked to be on hand to help with the smooth running of the morning. From carrying cups of tea and coffee, to amassing a good stock of brochures to aid with future parent meetings on Senior School choice, to capturing the event on camera, Izzy, Francesca, Archie, Jack and Charlie were fabulous. They did not stop all morning and carried out their requested duties with a smile, presenting themselves as impeccable ambassadors for the school. They were part of the buzz which filled the Sports Hall from the moment the doors opened to the last dying minutes during which we had to usher the remaining parents to their cars! It was a hugely positive event and one which set an optimistic tone for the rest of my weekend.

  • Newsletter Friday 17Th May 2019
Fortnightly Newsletter Friday 17th May 2019 FROM THE HEADMISTRESS Dear Parents, This time of year can bring many changes: sunshine, showers, new flowers and plants, cooler clothes and maybe even an ice cream or two in the recent sunny spell. Whatever the weather, the Summer Term at Feltonfleet is a special place. Light mornings and evenings mean that our days are long and allow us to make the most of our beautiful campus. The cricket season is in full flow with dozens of matches having already been played by both girls and boys, and the site is awash with outdoor activities. The Pre-Prep seasonal hats and sun cream have been in evidence as the pupils’ learning has found a more permanent home outside. The Lower School have been busy making the best of the site and cartwheeling their way through break times. It has been a more focused and testing period for Year 5 & 6, yet they have engaged positively with exam week and left this morning full of excitement for their Isle of Wight weekend adventure. 'Loud',‘ upbeat’ and ‘exhilarating’ are the words to describe the atmosphere in the Ashbee Theatre during this week’s rehearsals for the Jazz Night next Tuesday. Listening to the Middle and Upper Choirs pouring the song Our House by Madness into the corridors was spine -tingling! Over the past seven days our community has raised over £14,000, a brilliant community effort. On Friday evening, the annual Royal Marsden Quiz Night was supported by enthusiastic parents who quizzed and danced until midnight.

  • On Wednesday and Thursday Nights, Year 8 Took Me Back to Those
On Wednesday and Thursday nights, Year 8 took me back to those halcyon days of young love and boy band crushes when they entertained two fully packed theatre audiences with Totally Over You. It was a performance full of spirit and courage as four, hitherto non singing and dancing boys from Year 8 were catapulted, courtesy of Mrs Housego’s casting, into the founding members of Awesome, Hazelwood’s answer to Take That and Boyzone. There were moments of joy, of pathos and of teenage intrigue. As always with the Year 8 play, aside from the leading cast members who all performed brilliantly, there were some compelling cameo performances the most watchable of which was Jack G’s dancing in the shadows during the band’s big number. Well done to the cast who pulled together the play in just a few weeks and to Mrs Housego for yet again bringing the curtain down on a stellar Y8 play. Special mention must go too to Zac who was called upon to handle the lighting and the sound as a technical team of one. All seemed to run smoothly and if there were technical glitches, they didn’t show. As they say, ‘the show must go on’ and it did with style, panache and glow sticks! Thank you to Mrs Slade for these wonderful photos which perfectly capture the mood of the piece. Details will be shared as to how to get hold of copies. There was excitement of a different kind when Year 2 arrived at school on Wednesday to see a strange man dressed in a glittery purple hat with a cane and googly eyes standing in the car park.

  • Dragonnews News and Events for Dragon Parents
WEEK OF 11.9.2020 DragonNEWS News and Events for Dragon Parents Welcome back Dragons! 1 Dear Parents elcome to the new academic year, and an especially warm Wwelcome to those parents who are new to the Dragon community. We are absolutely delighted to have the children back in school, and it is excellent to see the boys and girls so engaged in their work, enthusiastic in their play and really enjoying each other’s company. The term has got off to an impressive start and the children are settling well into their routines, whilst mastering the one-way systems, separate play areas, and new dining arrangements. We are very proud of how our young Dragons have adapted to all the measures that have necessarily been put in place to ensure a safe environment for us all at this time. We very much appreciate the support of parents during this challenging time and I should like to draw your attention to the separate notices regarding social distancing and winter illnesses/COVID 19. Last Saturday saw the launch of our long-awaited Dragon QUEST programme, and the inaugural Saturday morning was a resounding success. Around 88% of our young D and E Block Dragons participated on the first day. It was wonderful to see all the children enjoying a wide range of activities including visiting a working farm, paddle-boarding on the River Cherwell, a cultural tour of Oxford, bike mechanics, polo, 3D printing, film-making, and design and technology. Congratulations to our QUEST Director, Tim Knapp, who has worked tirelessly towards this launch, and I should also like to thank all the teachers who are involved in this varied programme.
