  • Female Fashion Trends in Lahore
Journal of the Punjab University Historical Society Volume: 34, No. 01, January – June 2021 Ahmad Bilal * Aqsa Nadeem ** Israr Hussain Chishti*** Female Fashion Trends in Lahore Abstract The fashion of female dresses always changes with the priorities and requirements; however, social values and consumer’s acceptance are key factors in the social approval and success of a trend. This research paper explores the evolution of female fashion in Lahore and finds a rapid growth and expansion in the local fashion market, with the turn of the century. The formation of the Pakistan Institute of Fashion Design in 1994 has opened the possibilities of formal education and training in the field. Later, Pakistan fashion Design Council (PFDC) has launched fashion shows in 2010, which gave the chance to amalgamate the local industry to the international fashion designers. International fashion involvements have influenced the traditional dresses, like kameez, shalwar, saris and frocks, and transformed them to create a global appeal. Introduction A significant advancement and growth can be observed in the fashion industry of Lahore, after the year 2000, which has been reflected in the rapid transformations in the local fashion trends. This research paper explores the progression of female fashion in Lahore and discovers some of the major factors behind these advancements. Fashion can be defined as the most recent and popular style of a product, which is largely approved and accepted by the public. It also identifies the thoughtfulness and sensibility of design, and reflects the sociopolitical and economic state of a society. VISUAL EXPRESSION AMONG CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS: IMPLICATIONS FOR ART EDUCATION BY ATTWELL MAMVUTO A THESIS SUBMITTED IN FULFILMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE DEGREE OF DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY DEPARTMENT OF TEACHER EDUCATION FACULTY OF EDUCATION UNIVERSITY OF ZIMBABWE 2013 i Dedication To my family and uncle Davies who have always been a source of inspiration. ii Acknowledgements I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to all contemporary artists, Chikonzero Chazunguza (Chiko), David Chinyama, Charles Kamangwana, Doris Kampira and Chenjerai Mutasa, who granted me the chance to interview and observe them as they worked in their ateliers, and provided artworks for analyses. It was through an analysis of their practice that I gained valuable insights into contemporary visual practice in Zimbabwe. Their co-operation and contribution is greatly appreciated. I am also grateful to colleges and art lecturers, schools and art teachers for the provision of documents for analyses as well as interviews and discussions. The documents were insightful and informative as they contained the much needed data on the implementation of art curricula at various levels of education. Thank you for the valuable information and candid views that made my understanding of current art education in Zimbabwe more informed. Great thanks go to Mr and Mrs Chawatama for the efficient and reliable audio tape recorder that was used in the study. It made the transcription process an easier task than I thought as all the interviews were clear and audible. I am greatly indebted to my supervisors: Dr Natsa, Professor Zindi and Dr Matiure, for their invaluable guidance throughout the entire study.

  • The Role of Consumer Ethnocentrism Propensity and Brand Personality in Purchasing Domestic Products
The Lahore Journal of Business 7 : 1 (Autumn 2018): pp. 85–111 The Role of Consumer Ethnocentrism Propensity and Brand Personality in Purchasing Domestic Products Imtiaz Ahmad* and Hafiz Ihsan Ur Rehman** Abstract The current study was designed to observe the impact of consumer ethnocentrism and brand personality on purchase intention, perceived quality and brand trust in the Pakistani clothing market. Famous Pakistani clothing brands were selected to examine the impact of consumer ethnocentrism and brand personality on purchase intention, evaluation of the product and brand trust. 300 questionnaires were distributed to consumers. The response rate was 90%. The sample comprised 52.2% males and 47.8% females. Two-level Structural Equation Modelling using LISREL 8.80 was employed to determine the convergent and discriminant validity. The study has concluded that Pakistani consumers are highly ethnocentric and ethnocentrism strongly affects purchase intention of domestic brands among Pakistani customers. The research found that brand image has a greater effect on purchase intention, perceived quality and brand trust than consumer ethnocentrism. Results also demonstrate that quality, as perceived by consumers, influences purchase intention which indicates that alone, brand personality and consumer ethnocentrism tendencies do not guarantee sales of local brands. This study puts both consumer ethnocentrism and brand personality into one model to access its role on consumer behavior. The results of the research can assist domestic marketers to comprehend the role of consumer ethnocentrism propensity and brand personality in purchasing domestic products, quality perception and building trust among young customers. To the best of the researchers’ knowledge, it is one of the pioneer studies in the context of Pakistan that casts light on the significance of ethnocentrism in evaluating domestic products by contributing to the literature of marketing.

  • Printmaking in India
Jain 64 CHAPTER 2 DEVELOPMENT OF PRINTMAKING IN INDIA Jain 65 DEVELOPMENT OF PRINTMAKING IN INDIA “Print has always been something of an amalgam of art, craft and science of creativity, skill and technology.” (Robinson 6) Commencement of Printmaking Fifteenth century marked the beginning of printing activities in Europe when Johann Gutenberg of Germany, invented the technique of printing with the help of Press, durable moveable type-face in 1450. (Movable type) His invention of the mechanical movable type printing started the Printing Revolution in Europe, which is widely viewed as the most important event of the modern period. (Miller) In 1452 the first Bible was printed – the 42-line Bible, known as the ‘Gutenberg Bible’. (Johannes Gutenberg) Later, wood-cut prints were also printed which played an important role in the development of this technique. Printmaking in India In India Printmaking started in the beginning of 20th century as a creative medium, but the printing activities among artists were very limited till 1950’s. However, it was found that the use of wood blocks was already popular in India since ancient times and it was used as state stamps. (S.
