    COBBLING TOGETHER THE DREAM INDIAN ELEVEN Whenever the five selectors, often dubbed as the five wise men with the onerous responsibility of cobbling together the best players comprising India’s test cricket team, sit together to pick the team they feel the heat of the country’s collective gaze resting on them. Choosing India’s cricket team is one of the most difficult tasks as the final squad is subjected to intense scrutiny by anybody and everybody. Generally the point veers round to questions such as why batsman A was not picked or bowler B was dropped from the team. That also makes it a very pleasurable hobby for followers of the game who have their own views as to who should make the final 15 or 16 when the team is preparing to leave our shores on an away visit or gearing up to face an opposition on a tour of our country. Arm chair critics apart, sports writers find it an enjoyable professional duty when they sit down to select their own team as newspapers speculate on the composition of the squad pointing out why somebody should be in the team at the expense of another. The reports generally appear on the sports pages on the morning of the team selection. This has been a hobby with this writer for over four decades now and once the team is announced, you are either vindicated or amused. And when the player, who was not in your frame goes on to play a stellar role for the country, you inwardly congratulate the selectors for their foresight and knowledge.

During these times our Orchid Bulletin plays a crucial role in communicating not only within the Club Members but also with fellow Rotarians from other Clubs and the District Officials too.One of the most significant event happened last week is festival Ganesha Gowri at Rotary Orchards Chaitanya Senior Citizens Home. The enthusiasm of seniors in participating in the event was most joyous event and many of them remembered their childhood memories and could not control tears. Import of crude edible oil to India saw a huge jump of 35% to a record 8.4 million tonne (mt) in 2009. India's edible oil imports comprise almost 80% of palm oil. Reserve Bank of India, along with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has allowed recognised stock exchanges to launch futures currency trading in euro-rupee, pound sterling-rupee and yen-rupee. Futures trading in dollars-rupee was already allowed. With an economic freedom score of 53.8, India has been rated the 124th freest economy in the world, according to the 16th Annual Index of Economic Freedom, released by The Heritage Foundation and The Wall Street Journal. Hong Kong and Singapore finished 1st and 2nd in the rankings for the 16th straight year. With Australia in 3rd place and New Zealand moving up to number 4, the Asia-Pacific region boasts a clean sweep at the top. Europe registered three top 10 placements: Ireland, Denmark and Switzerland. The United Kingdom dropped out of the top 10 for the first time in Index history. The United States also dropped significantly, to 8th place. The fiscal deficit for 2009-10 was budgeted at a 16-year high of 6.8% of GDP. The high fiscal deficit is blamed on the measures the government took to address the demand slump that followed the global financial crisis.

    CRICKET MEMORABILIA SOCIETY POSTAL AUCTION FRIDAY 9th JULY 2021 Lot 345 1 CRICKET MEMORABILIA SOCIETY POSTAL AUCTION CLOSING AT NOON 9th JULY 2021 Conditions of Postal Sale The CMS reserves the right to refuse items which are damaged or unsuitable, or we have doubts about authenticity. Reserves can be placed on lots but must be agreed with the CMS. They should reflect realistic values/expectations and not be the “highest price” expected. The CMS will take 7% of the price realised, the vendor 93% which will normally be paid no later than 6 weeks after the auction. The CMS will undertake to advertise the memorabilia for auction on its website no later than 3 weeks prior to the closing date of the auction. Bids will only be accepted from CMS members. Postal bids must be in writing or e-mail by the closing date and time shown above. Generally, no item will be sold below 10% of the lower estimate without reference to the vendor. Thus, an item with a £10-15 estimate can be sold for £9, but not £8, without approval. The incremental scale for the acceptance of bids is as follows: £2 increments up to £20, then £20/22/25/28/30 up to £50, then £5 increments to £100 and £10 increments above that. So, if there are two postal bids at £25 and £30, the item will go to the higher bidder at £28. Should there be two identical bids, the first received will win. Bids submitted between increments will be accepted, thus a £52 bid will not be rounded either up or down.
