AMY DIRECTOR RETURNS TO FICTION

British fi lmmaker Asif Kapadia, the director of the acclaimed documentary Amy, has taken a break from factual projects to helm the romantic drama Ali and Nino, which is currently in post-production. Based on a lost classic written by Azerbaijani writer Kuban Said, the fi lm charts the affair between a young Muslim man Ali Khan (Adam Bakri, Omar) and the Christian Nino Kipiani (Maria Valverde, Exodus: Gods and Kings) in the fi rst decade of the 20th Century. Co-stars include Mandy Patinkin (Homeland) and Connie Nielsen Amy Winehouse (The Following), while the screenplay is by Christopher Hampton (Dangerous Liaisons, Atonement). Kapadia won a BAFTA for his 2010 motorsport documentary Senna and his portrait of the tragic soul singer Amy Winehouse has also received widespread acclaim.
