Microwave International New Media Arts Festival 2020 returns this year from 30 October to 15 November. With the curatorial theme Sharp Chronicles, the festival presents a series of exhibitions, online episodes, and screenings, to explore the pursuit of truth in face of information explosion and fabrication in the everyday life.

HKAAA is offering an exclusive curatorial tour on 7 Nov 2020. The guided tour will be led by Joel Kwong, Programme Director of Microwave International New Media Arts Festival. The tour will cover the main exhibition. Participants will see works from international artists, including Lawrence Abu Hamdan (Lebanon), Forensic Architecture (UK), Don't Follow the Wind (Japan, US, Italy), Tao Ya-Lun (Taiwan), Critical Art Ensemble (US), Tactical Tech (Germany), and more.

Episode 1 of "A Lover's Concerto" ended with lots of love! The online broadcast had not only brought love to many countries in Asia, but also to the hearts of audiences in the United States, Britain, France, etc. The love and warmth brought upon by the duos accompanied all of us through the pandemic. Docent training is an important part of audience development. We are gathering a group of enthusiastic arts and culture lovers to train them up to work as docents to conduct docent tours on arts performances. Through the scheme, you will:

✅ Learn to appreciate and to share theatre works, and the philosophy and working principles behind concept creation of the production team ✅ Be able to conduct research to prepare docent guiding materials ✅ Reflect on the conmection between theatre and the society, and learn to lead discussion with the audience

Hong Kong Scholarship for Professional Attachment to Public Programmes at Tate London 2021 Open call for application

Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) collaborates with Tate of the UK again to launch the “Hong Kong Scholarship for Professional Attachment to Public Programmes at Tate London 2021” (The Programme). It is now open for application.

The Programme will support one local curator or arts manager to take part in a 22-week attachment on a full-time basis from September 2021 to February 2022 in the Public Programme Team at Learning & Research Department of Tate Modern and Tate Britain. The selected candidate will attach as Assistant Curator, contributing to research, development, planning, delivery and evaluation of the cross-site public programmes of Tate Modern and Tate Britain exhibitions and collection displays, and various strategic partnerships initiatives. He/She will work with different departments, artists and collaborators to plan and develop the public programmes.

A bursary of HK$168,000 will be provided to the selected candidate to cover local accommodation, transportation, subsistence during the placement period and a round trip economy ticket from Hong Kong to UK.

HKGNA Music Festival 2020 “To Hong Kong with Love”

Hong Kong Generation Next Arts (HKGNA) is proud to present our 7th HKGNA Music Festival “To Hong Kong with Love” this October 31 – November 28, 2020 in all free concerts and events to the Hong Kong community during this very difficult time.

We will kick off HKGNA Music Festival 2020 in the Spirit of Wellness, with a series of Global Online Music Therapy Events “Music Heals!” This event features experienced Music Therapists; including Dr. Ken Aigen, Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapist and Program Director of NYU/ Steinhardt Music Therapy; Dr. Irene Feher, Voice Professor at Concordia University’s Department of Music; Dr. Chong Hyun Ju, the Chair of Music Therapy at Ewha Womans University; inspiring autism advocate, Aaltje van Zweden, Founder of Papageno Foundation and the Head of their music therapist project, Mathieu Pater. This series is supported by the U.S. Canada, Netherlands and Korean Consulates, Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong, as well as the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong.

Our opening concert “Music for All Seasons!” will be with the incredible Canadian Chinese Violinist Jing Wang, concertmaster of HK Phil, performing with the top prize winner of Junior Tchaikovsky Competition, Cellist Nan Jia and HKGNA Founder Pianist Michelle Kim. They will perform Piazzolla’s The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires. Second half of the concert will showcase members of Hong Kong Camerata Strings performing Vivaldi’s signature piece The Four Seasons under the direction of Conductor/ Violist Jeremy Williams. This concert will be on Oct 31, 2020, 8pm at Tai Kwun JC Cube supported by the Consulate General of Canada in Hong Kong and Macao. (Online registration opens on Oct 1, 10am: https://bit.ly/30eNiU8 )

We are also proud to co-present “Love and Harmony” with the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Hong Kong and the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong on Nov 2, 2020 8pm at HKAPA JC Amphitheatre. We will showcase an all-star line-up of Korean/Hong Kong artists performing in this special concert. We will feature a chamber music performance by Violinist Euna Kim, Violist Andrew Ling, Cellist Siwon Park, HKGNA Founder Pianist Michelle Kim and Pianist Yoonie Han. We are honoured to present the Asia Premiere of two incredible works by Korean Composer Texu Kim: Arirang, the Love Sonata and Mountain Village. The Asia Premiere and some other amazing works will be performed by Soprano Yuki Ip, Tenor Chen Yong, Violist Chris Choi, Oboist Kenneth Sze, Violinist Andy Yeung, Flutist Chloe Leung, Pianist/orthopaedic surgeon Michael Mak and Hong Kong’s top young artist orchestra under the direction of Conductor Andrew Ling. We are also proud to co-present with Netherlands Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macao to launch a Virtual Concert event,“Dutch Arts Splendid” by the finest Dutch Violinist Tosca Opdam, sublime Violist Dana Zemtsov and great Pianist Anna Fedorova.This virtual concert experience on Nov 19, 2020 will connect artwork with musical themes in a cultural collaboration with the Van Gogh Museum Amsterdam. Finally, true to our mission to nurture and inspire our best young Hong Kong Artists, we will present our signature Stars and Friends Concert, a musical collaboration with Hong Kong’s top classical musicians, HKGNA Music Competition Winners and our very own HKGNA members and Musical Angels on Nov 9, 2020 7:30pm at Sheung Wan Civic Centre Theatre.

‘Creators for Tomorrow Scheme 2020 (Open Call)’ is a new initiative launched by the (HKAC) with an aim to encourage and support Hong Kong emerging artists and curators who are attempting to launch a professional career in arts to gain practical experiences by actively involving in programme planning, creations, and execution.

To nurture local up-and-coming artists and curators, HKAC is now accepting proposals for solo exhibitions or themed group exhibitions of various contemporary art forms and disciplines (Visual Art, New Media Art, Comic Art, Sound Art and Cross-disciplinary Arts) at the HKAC Experimental Gallery (3F, HKAC).

Successful applicants will be awarded up to HK$60,000 for their proposed projects. The application deadline is 27 November 2020, all projects should be carried out in 2021/2022. Please refer to the application guidelines for more details.
