a year TO DECEMBER 2012 remember As 2012 comes to an end, ushering in a brand new year of possibilities, WLIW21 reflects on the indispensable support from members like you. Here’s a look back at some memorable WLIW21 moments from 2012.The year began on a high note with a second season of Downton Abbey and a new weekly series from Bill Moyers. Great Performances brought us the usual lineup of extraordinary talent from Tony Bennett to The Phantom of the Opera, while Nature continued its 30th anniversary season with Raccoon Nation and Cracking the Koala Code. American Masters had an outstanding year with a portrait of Johnny Carson, and Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates, Jr. provided another audience favorite, Finding Your Roots, which explored the intersecting genealogy of notable Americans. Local programming continued to impress with returning series Live from the Artists Den, Consuelo Mack WealthTrack, and Treasures of New York, which recently showcased its first Long Island “treasure,” the Amagansett Life-Saving Station in Ocean Keeper. MetroFocus provided New Yorkers with a consistent source of local news and insight now on-air twice a month and online. The MetroFocus news crew also worked tirelessly during Hurricane Sandy and the nor’easter to provide vital information about the storm’s aftermath. We’ve been there for you this year, and you, in turn, have been there for us. When proposed public television funding cuts took center stage during the first presidential debate, tens of thousands of you in the region spoke up online and through social media to tell us how much public television means to you. And your contributions throughout this year have helped us create the programs of consequence that we present on-air and online each and every day. As we look ahead to the new year, everyone at WLIW21 continues to be committed to providing Long Island with exceptional programming and community service. Thank you for making it all possible.
