LAVENHAM LOOP MANDER ROAD MTB A flat, sealed loop. MATOKITOKI CIRCUIT This 18km loop is a diverse and pretty mix, with sealed roads, a solid gravel road climb and a short, steep descent on a track. From town, ride Stafford St onto Riverside Rd, which is hilly but sealed. Turn left onto gravelled Cave Rd, which climbs to a gate. Go through this and keep climbing on the 4wd track, then drop steeply to Matokitoki Valley Rd. The seal resumes. As you get back to town, turn left onto Valley Rd, Barkers Hill, then Ballance St, then turn left onto Russell St, back to Stafford St. An out-and-back option is to carry on up Riverside Rd instead of turning onto Cave Rd (shown on map). PARK Hilly, and very handy GISBORNE FORESHORE to town.. Ride up Fox Portside Hotel (3) is an ideal place to stay, with the nearby Street to the reserve Riverside Walkway taking you to the ocean.
