Five Years of Hell And One Very Torrid Love Affair Begin. For five long and torturous years I have dreamt of devils and stop signs and large red trucks, dying babies spewing green vomit, coiled snakes, black bodies and burning bridges fill my dreams. Even today the night terrors continue as I lay very ill and uninsured in the United States of America. I made a single bad decision five years ago, to quit my job and move to another state to be near my grown children, also giving up my health insurance, and that bad decision left me where I am now, half dead and sitting outdoors on an ex-boyfriend’s porch swing, uninsured, rotting and starving and so scared, that my teeth would chatter and my knees would wobble, like an old fashion cartoon character. I sit on this swing for 18 hours a day, waiting for doctor appointments alone, and then one sunny South West Florida day, I met Kirk. Kirk is much like a block of ice amongst the glaciers, smooth on the outside, hard bodied, cool, and hidden in the wrong spot at the right time, could sink even the strongest of ships, much like the iceberg that took down the Titanic. He’s a storm all right, and my not heeding the warning signals of my gut on getting involved with Kirk start yet another stretch of terrifying events. I’ve known Kirk for about three months, yet strangely I am not even sure what he looks like. In the commotion of erratic chaos he’s a blur. -

The MTV Generation: 1980s Fashion Nicole Chichilitti Keywords: 1980s fashion / American Style / Madonna / MTV / music videos / Olivia Newton John Abstract This is the story about Monica LaSalle’s style journey through the 1980s. The fashion and trends of the decades made a significant mark on American popular culture as well as the fashion industry as a whole. Using interviews with Monica, as well as popular culture media such as music video and television shows, this essay will analyze whether or not Monica was on trend at the right time. In particular, I will focus heavily on the introduction of the Music Television channel (MTV) and the effect that its music videos by featured artists, Madonna and Olivia Newton, had on Monica’s sense of style. The Birth of MTV On Saturday, August 1, 1981, the youth of America eagerly waited in front of blank television sets for history to be made. At 12:01 a.m., images of the launch countdown for the spaceship Colombia and the launch of Apollo 11 flashed across the screen as a voice, very matter-of-fact, read: “Ladies and gentlemen, rock and roll.” It was the birth of MTV. The first music video featured was appropriately titled “Video Killed the Radio Star” by The Buggles. This marked the beginning of a 24-hour loop of music videos, where enthusiasts young and old could tune in to catch their favorite musicians in action. MTV’s target audience was teenagers, specifically from the twelve to nineteen age range. The channel dubbed these viewers the “MTV generation” (Greenberg 153). -

One of the camp's visitors was launching a Gospel music record label and saw great promise and profits in her Where You are. While attending J. Where You are recorded an album, Jessicabut Proclaim went bankrupt and the album was never released except for a small pressing funded by her grandmother. This small pressing gained her minor attention which led her to performing at concerts with other gospel legendary acts such as Kirk FranklinGod's Propertyand CeCe Winans. Mottola instantly thought Simpson sounded like Mariah Carey. Simpson was immediately signed to the label. She dropped out of high school but later earned her GED. Due to the mainstream Where You are of teen pop artist Britney Spears and Christina Aguilerathe label felt Simpson's debut album would perform just as well as, if not better than, Spears' and Aguilera's. -
