Later Alex purchased 48 acres of land from Norman Ramsay near the Indian River Bridge. Here they made their home from then on. Sarah married James Sanphy and moved to Kings County. Their family were Marion, Nellie, Matilda, William and Lawrence. Louis married Mary Agnes Hickey of Summerside and settled near the home where he worked at Blacksmith work. For many years the smith's furnace glow was seen for long hours, and the clang of the hammer was a sounding symbol of work in progress as tires, shoes, and numerous repair jobs were done. In those days, even though travel was slower, great dis tances were covered to get required fixtures and also meet and converse with acquaintances. It was as good as a picnic. The speed of today has lost that familiar tone. Louis and Mary Agnes had three children who died quite young. Kitty, Rorie, George and Tilly never married and lived on the home stead through life lending a helping hand to the various works of the day.

Under a spreading green pine tree, The country smithy stands; The smith, a mighty man is he, With large and sinewy hands; And the muscles of his brawny arms Are strong as iron bands.

Week in week out from morn to night, You can hear his bellows blow; You can hear him swing his heavy sledge, With measured beat and slow, Like a sexton ringing the village bell, When the evening sun is low.
