PEARSON BACCALAUREATE Sue Bastian has been involved with the IB for three decades. She began teaching ToK, Psychology, and Philosophy in the Philippines in 1974, before moving to the United Nations International School in New York City in 1980. Sue has been a Deputy Chief Examiner and Chief Examiner and is currently a consultant and workshop leader.
Julian Kitching has taught IB Biology since 1988 and Theory of Knowledge since 1990. He helped to set up the SOS Hermann Gemeiner International College in Ghana – a school mainly funded Page 73 by the charitable organization SOS Kinderdorf and the fi rst IB diploma programme school in West Africa. Julian has been a member of the senior management team there since 1999. In the 1990s, Theory of Julian assisted in the creation of the current overall structure of the ToK programme. Vocabulary Their Way®: Words and Strategies for Academic Success is a Middle School Vocabulary program from Pearson's Words Their Way authorship team including Donald Bear, Shane Templeton, Francine Johnston, Marcia Invernizzi, Lori Helman, Kevin Flanigan and Latisha Hayes. By incorporating proven strategies for vocabulary acquisition, students are prepared to implement vocabulary strategies in the context of what they read, addressing the Common Core State Standards and leading to success in all content areas.
In 15–20 minutes per day, teachers can instruct students in research-based, proven methods of vocabulary acquisition and use, while addressing the Common Core State Standards.
