PERSONAL DATA Full name is James Houston Fancher. Born February 17, 1966 at Newport, Tenn. Married to the former Cathy Reagan of Jamestown, Tenn. They have two sons, Hayden and Ethan.

EDUCATION Graduated from Cocke County High in Newport, Tenn., in 1984. Attended Middle Tennessee State and received bachelor’s degree in education in 1988. Earned master’s degree in education administration from Lincoln Memorial in 1990.

PLAYING EXPERIENCE Lettered in basketball and baseball at Cocke County High. Named the school’s athlete of the year as a senior.

AT APPALACHIAN STATE Entering his 12th season with the Mountaineers, eighth as head coach. Spent two seasons as associate head coach and two years as an assistant coach.

PREVIOUS COACHING EXPERIENCE Started his career as an undergraduate assistant coach at Middle Tennessee State (1984-88). Four seasons at Maryville where he helped the team to the NCAA Division III Elite Eight. Three years as head coach at North Greenville (S.C.) College, posting a record of 44-41 after reviving the program from a year’s absence. Also resurrected the tennis program at the school and served as head coach. One season as assistant coach at Vanderbilt (1995-96). Four seasons at Appalachian State, two as assistant coach (1996-98) and two as as- sociate head coach (1998-2000).
