1.6 Subp. 3. Open areas. The following youth and adult special hunt areas are open by
1.7 permit in 2018:
1.8 A. Camp Ripley Military Refuge in Morrison County is open for youth taking
1.9 antlerless deer and legal bucks by archery October 13 and 14. No more than 175 permits
1.10 shall be issued. The Minnesota Deer Hunters Association and Minnesota State Archery
1.11 Association are the sponsoring nonprofit organizations. The bag limit is one;
1.12 B. Lake Alexander Preserve in Morrison County is open October 13 and 14 for
1.13 youth taking antlerless deer and legal bucks by archery. No more than 20 permits shall be
1.14 issued. The Nature Conservancy, Minnesota State Archery Association, and the Minnesota
1.15 Deer Hunters Association are the sponsors. The bag limit is one;
1.16 C. portions of Afton State Park in Washington County are open November 3 and
1.17 4 for youth taking antlerless deer and legal bucks by firearms. No more than 25 permits
1.18 shall be issued. The Department of Natural Resources, Division of Parks and Trails, is the
1.19 sponsor. The bag limit is two;
1.20 D. portions of Banning State Park in Pine County are open October 27 and 28 for
1.21 youth taking antlerless deer and legal bucks by firearms. No more than six permits shall be

1.24 E. portions of Blue Mounds State Park in Rock County are open November 17

2.15 I. Kilen Woods State Park in Jackson County is open October 27 and 28 for youth
2.16 taking antlerless deer and legal bucks by firearms. No more than six permits shall be issued.
2.17 The Department of Natural Resources, Division of Parks and Trails, and the Minnesota
2.18 Deer Hunters Association are the sponsors. The bag limit is one;
2.19 J. portions of Lake Bemidji State Park in Beltrami County are open October 19
2.20 through 21 for youth taking antlerless deer and legal bucks by firearms. No more than 20
2.21 permits shall be issued. The Department of Natural Resources, Division of Parks and Trails,
2.22 and the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association, Bemidji Chapter, are the sponsors. The bag

3.11 N. portions of Savanna Portage State Park in Aitkin County are open October 27
3.12 and 28 for youth taking antlerless deer and legal bucks by firearms. No more than 25 permits

3.15 O. Sibley State Park in Kandiyohi County is open October 27 and 28 for youth
3.16 taking antlerless deer and legal bucks by firearms. No more than ten permits shall be issued.

3.19 P. portions of Tettegouche State Park in Lake County are open October 27 and
3.20 28 for youth taking antlerless deer and legal bucks by firearms. No more than ten permits

3.23 Q. portions of Zippel Bay State Park in Lake of the Woods County are open

4.3 R. the Gamehaven Scout Reservation in Olmsted County is open October 27 and
4.4 28 for youth taking antlerless deer and legal bucks by firearms. No more than 15 permits
4.5 shall be issued. The Boy Scouts of America, Gamehaven Council, is the sponsor. The bag
4.6 limit is one;
4.7 S. the Big Woods Heritage Forest, Sauber Woods Unit, in Rice County is open
4.8 October 20 and 21 for youth taking antlerless deer and legal bucks by firearms. No more
4.9 than four permits shall be issued. The Tri-Lakes Sportsmen's Club is the sponsor. The bag
4.10 limit is one;
4.11 T. portions of St. Croix State Park in Pine County are open October 27 and 28 for
4.12 adult learn-to-deer-hunt participants taking antlerless deer and legal bucks by firearms. No
4.13 more than 14 permits shall be issued. The Department of Natural Resources, Division of
4.14 Parks and Trails, is the sponsor. The bag limit is one; and
4.15 U. portions of Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge in Carver County are
4.16 open October 27 and 28 for adult learn-to-deer-hunt participants taking antlerless deer and
4.17 legal bucks by firearms. No more than ten permits shall be issued. The Minnesota Valley
4.18 National Wildlife Refuge is the sponsor. The bag limit is one.
4.19 6232.2560 YOUTH SPECIAL DEER SEASONS.
4.20 Subpart 1. Requirements. Youths participating in youth special deer seasons must
4.21 obtain a license for taking deer by firearms, valid for any season option, by the beginning
4.22 date of the special season. A youth special season participant may take one deer, which
4.23 must be antlerless of either sex. One bonus permit may be used. Only one legal buck may
4.24 be taken during youth special deer seasons and in the state per year. An adult mentor age
4.25 18 or older authorized by the youth's parent or guardian must accompany the youth hunter

5.1 at all times during the hunt. The accompanying adult may not hunt. Party hunting is not
5.2 allowed. The blaze orange or pink requirements in Minnesota Statutes, section 97B.071,
5.3 paragraph (a), apply to all hunters and trappers, and all adult mentors of youth hunters, in
5.4 the areas open to firearms deer hunting during the youth special seasons established in this
5.5 part.
5.6 Subp. 2. Open areas; date.
5.7 A. Open areas and dates for youth deer seasons are established annually by the
5.8 commissioner.
5.9 B. For 2018, Whitewater Game Refuge and deer permit areas 101, 105, 111, 114,
5.10 201, 203, 208, 209, 256, 257, 260, 263, 264, 267, 268, 338, 339, 341, 342, 343, 344, 345,
5.11 346, 347, 348, 349, 601, and 603 are open for taking either-sex deer by firearms October
5.12 18 through 21 to youth who are at least ten years of age and under 16 years of age at the
5.13 time of the hunt.
5.14 EFFECTIVE PERIOD. The expedited emergency amendments to Minnesota Rules, parts
5.15 6232.2550 and 6232.2560, expire December 31, 2018. After the emergency amendments
5.16 expire, the permanent rules as they read before those amendments again take effect, except
5.17 as they may be amended by permanent rule.
