ADDRESS PHONE NUMBER WEBSITE 500 W. Kilbourn Avenue, Milwaukee, WI 53203 414.908.6000 MillerHighLifeTheatre.com FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Sarah Maio [email protected] 414-908-6056 King Crimson Announce “Music Is Our Friend” North American Tour Dates 2021 King Crimson comes to the Miller High Life Theatre on August 31, 2021 MILWAUKEE – (June 7, 2021) – The Miller High Life Theatre and Alternative Concert Group are proud to welcome King Crimson with special guest The Zappa Band to the Miller High Life Theatre, August 31, 2021. Artist VIP presale is June 9 at 11 a.m., and venue presale is June 10th at 10 a.m. Tickets go on sale to the public Friday, June 11 at noon at the Miller High Life Theatre box office or Ticketmaster. When King Crimson returns to action this July, it will be the seventh year that the band has toured since returning to performing live in 2014, a run only interrupted by the lockdown in 2020. In that time, the audience has been reinvented, as much as the band itself, something Robert Fripp noted after the band’s performance in Pompeii, Italy’s famous amphitheater: “In Pompeii, a large percentage of the audience was young couples; KC moved into the mainstream in Italy. I walked onstage knowing that this band's position in the world has changed level.” - Robert Fripp The band’s shows regularly include material from twelve of their thirteen studio albums, including many songs from their seminal 1969 album In the Court of the Crimson King, described by Pete Townshend as an “uncanny masterpiece.” The 7-piece line-up play many historic pieces, which Crimson has never previously played live, as well as new arrangements of Crimson classics – “the music is new whenever it was written.” There are also new instrumentals and songs, as well as compositions by the three drummers, Pat Mastelotto, Gavin Harrison and Jeremy Stacey, which are a regular highlight.

KING CRIMSON – 01.

  • Varsity Jazz
Varsity Jazz Jazz at Reading University 1951 - 1984 By Trevor Bannister 1 VARSITY JAZZ Jazz at Reading University 1951 represented an important year for Reading University and for Reading’s local jazz scene. The appearance of Humphrey Lyttelton’s Band at the University Rag Ball, held at the Town Hall on 28th February, marked the first time a true product of the Revivalist jazz movement had played in the town. That it should be the Lyttelton band, Britain’s pre-eminent group of the time, led by the ex-Etonian and Grenadier Guardsman, Humphrey Lyttelton, made the event doubly important. Barely three days later, on 3rd March, the University Rag Committee presented a second event at the Town Hall. The Jazz Jamboree featured the Magnolia Jazz Band led by another trumpeter fast making a name for himself, the colourful Mick Mulligan. It would be the first of his many visits to Reading. Denny Dyson provided the vocals and the Yew Tree Jazz Band were on hand for interval support. There is no further mention of jazz activity at the university in the pages of the Reading Standard until 1956, when the clarinettist Sid Phillips led his acclaimed touring and broadcasting band on stage at the Town Hall for the Rag Ball on 25th February, supported by Len Lacy and His Sweet Band. Considering the intense animosity between the respective followers of traditional and modern jazz, which sometimes reached venomous extremes, the Rag Committee took a brave decision in 1958 to book exponents of the opposing schools. The Rag Ball at the Olympia Ballroom on 20th February, saw Ken Colyer’s Jazz Band, which followed the zealous path of its leader in keeping rigidly to the disciplines of New Orleans jazz, sharing the stage with the much cooler and sophisticated sounds of a quartet led by Tommy Whittle, a tenor saxophonist noted for his work with the Ted Heath Orchestra.

E. Robinson wrote, "A strictly uniform outlook on life . was scarcely to be expected of Greeks; their personalities were too strong." The same individualism which characterized the Greek civilization to whom we owe so much of our culture is prevalent in the atmosphere of University High School. Several revolutionary academic curriculums were conceived at Uni and were expanded into national programs. Among these, the University of Illinois Committee on School Mathematics project (UICSM) is perhaps the best known. Another unique aspect of the curriculum is the Subfreshman program in which all necessary seventh and eighth grade courses are combined into a single year of study. Uni is a small school with a student body numbering about two hundred sixty, and, as a result, close friendships are often formed. However, each person maintains his own standards and sets his own goals. Students are aware, too, of the idealistic nature of the high school years and, while enjoying them to their fullest, try not to lose sight of the real world in which they will have to live. Uni not only boasts of the quality of its leaders, but that of its followers as well. Sports and extra- curricular activities aid students in exploring their abilities. In this manner, one is able to discover his talents and to experiment with them in several phases of school life in order to employ them fully in the years to come.
