It includes brief descriptions of voluntary organisations that help look after many of the parks and other green spaces in Bristol. The groups listed are all members of the Bristol Parks Forum. Also listed are some of the organisations that work with these groups and assist them, for example, with advice or resources. Contact details are included to facilitate links between groups, these were correct at the time of printing in March 2010. There is also an online listing of groups on the Parks Forum website at www.bristolparksforum.org.uk that will be updated if new groups are formed or if contact details change. Our thanks to the groups, not just for sending in their information, but for the brilliant contribution that they make to the greening of Bristol. This directory was produced by Bristol Parks and the Bristol Parks Forum. Contact: Parks and Estates Tel: 0117 922 3719 Email: [email protected] website: www.bristol.gov.uk/parks 4 Parks Forum Directory Bristol Parks Forum (BPF) BPF is a network of individual community groups and organisations that are working to improve parks and green spaces or have an interest in them. It is supported by the council but acts independently and is currently the only “community voice” that is dedicated to all of Bristol’s green spaces. The Forum’s 3 main roles are to: • Offer an opportunity to share ideas and experience; • Act as a consultation body for the Bristol Parks service and other agencies; • Influence decision-making, including the allocation of resources. The forum meets four times a year, including an annual conference. You can sign up for regular BPF email updates with news about parks & green spaces in Bristol via the BPF website'. New parks groups and similar organisations with an interest in protecting and enhancing green and open space are always welcome. Contact: Bristol Parks Forum Email: [email protected]. Website: www.bristolparksforum.org.uk 5 Parks Forum Directory Avonmouth & Kingsweston - North Area (NP1) Shirehampton Greens Shirehampton Greens is a small community group dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of open green space in Shirehampton. We have been active with Bristol City Council in the management of Lamplighters Marsh and particularly that part of the Nature Conservancy site known as the Daisy Field. We have campaigned locally to secure the riverside area known as Lamplighters Open Space from possible future development. This year we took part in BCC’s bid to Natural England for Access to Nature funding. Lamplighters Marsh is one of seven proposed Wild City sites. We hope to deliver a range of events opening the Marsh to wider access as part of the Wild City project. Contact Name: Renee Slater Email: [email protected] Address: 91 Station Road, Shirehampton, Bristol, BS11 9XA 6 Parks Forum Directory Henbury & Southmead - North Area (NP2) Friends of Badock’s Wood The Badock’s Wood Local Nature Reserve is situated in north Bristol, between Southmead, Henleaze and Westbury-on-Trym; it was formally designated as a LNR in January 2008. The area covers approximately 12 hectares and can be readily accessed from Lakewood Road and Doncaster Road. The Woods were given to the City by Sir Stanley Badock (a local industrialist) in 1937 and consist of a large grassed area and a beautiful wooded valley, with the River Trym in the valley floor. The woodland is at least 400 years old in parts and a Bronze Age burial mound (tumulus) gives added interest to the site. The Friends of Badock’s Wood is an enthusiastic local amenity group who provide a focus for local residents with an interest in protecting and enhancing the woods – this includes workdays and community events. In 2005 and 2007, Wild Flower Meadows were sown in order to enhance the appearance of the grassland area, which had previously been a site for 81 prefabs that were demolished in 1979/82. Tarmaced paths throughout the majority of the site provide good access and are wheelchair friendly. Local resident submissions to the Bristol City Council electoral review This PDF document contains local resident submissions with surnames B. Some versions of Adobe allow the viewer to move quickly between bookmarks. 13 February 2015 I have lived in Westbury on Trym village since 1991 first with my parents and then more recently with my own family. I have always valued the community which flows out from the historical village centre, under the new boundaries my home would no longer be part of this community and I would consider this a great personal loss. Surely the history and heritage of Westbury Village should carry some weight and significance when considering new ward boundaries. I fail to understand how it can be seen as acceptable to have the heart of Westbury on Trym Village boundaries moved to fall under the ward of Henleaze, which does not have the historic significance and village community. Also why it is acceptable for the downsized remaning part of Westbury Village to have only one councillor but this is not ok for any other ward. I therefore support the proposal to have a partnership ward with Henleaze and to share 3 councillors between us. I understand this is the only way to maintain the historical identity and preserve the integrity of the whole village. If other proposed changes were to go ahead I have concern for the value of my property as it would be separated from the historic village centre and fear that at some future date could be absorbed onto other wards. I would also like to include the following good reasons

  • 8 June 2010 No 17
8 June 2010 No 17 Hi, Help make Grove Wood a Local Nature Reserve On Thursday June 10th from 4pm, Bristol City Council's Cabinet will be discussing whether Grove Wood should be declared a Local Nature Reserve and whether they should consider compulsory purchasing the woods to secure its future for wildlife and public enjoyment. A Local Nature Reserve designation would ensure that Grove Wood was managed for wildlife, public enjoyment and educational use - just what the Snuff Mills Action Group have been calling for since 2008. You can help make this happen by: 1) Emailing [email protected] no later than noon on Wednesday June 9th [sorry about the short notice] stating why you think the Council should declare an LNR and buy Grove Wood Title your email: Grove Wood - Cabinet Discussions or something similar 2) Asking to speak at the Cabinet Meeting on June 10th - you need to request this in the email you send the Council 3) Joining Snuff Mills Action Group outside the Council House on College Green on Thursday June 10th at 3.30pm to show how much you want this to happen - make and bring banners! Check the Snuff Mills Action Group blog for more information at http://snuffmills.blogspot.com The report to cabinet can be seen by following the links for the 10th June Cabinet meeting at www.bristol.gov.uk/meetings There was also an article in today's Evening Post, see http://tinyurl.com/24cvo6l ------------------------- Area Green Space Plan Consultation As I mentioned in my last update, the AGSP consultation is starting on Monday (14th June).
