A similar entry to recent weeks contained a fair proportion of plainer, straight out of parlour dairy types, but also some super shapely and well-fleshed beef cows achieving top prices. Five cracking cull cows from Messrs. C.R. & I.E. White of Helston saw their heaviest 861kg Limousin also dearest pence per kilo at 174p/kg and making a huge price of £1,498 to David King of Exeter. Friesians to 107p/kg for Messrs. S.J. Dustow & Son of Ladock purchased by Dawn West Devon of Hatherleigh, with dearest black and white an 895kg cow from Mr. C.R. Rusden of Penhallow realising £913 to David King.

A fair entry of store cattle sold prior to the fourth season’s sale of suckled calves with total headage in excess of 300. A solid trade for the quality and stronger stores on offer and steady demand for the suckled calves with a fair contingent of buyers topping-up on earlier purchases. Topping the steers at £1,050 were best trio from an entry of Aberdeen Angus crosses from Mr. C.R. Broom of Mawgan Porth. A nice run of young Limousin x stores from Mr. D.P. Anderson of St. Buryan saw heifers to £810 and heifers to £760. Overall top heifer came from a run of strong Limousin x stores from Mr. W. Martin of Coombe for a single at £915. A pair of pure Simmental heifers around the 16 month old mark for Mr. J. Buckland of St. Buryan made £845; matched by same age South Devon heifers from Messrs. R.G.T. & G.E. Gilbert of Ruan Minor, whose single steer hit £900.

Lodge & Thomas Special £50 Prizes for top price native-sired steers and heifers saw shared steer winners with Messrs. R.J. Richards & Son of Carnkie’s run of nine Aberdeen Angus x steers topping at £730, matched by best bunch of four pure-bred Herefords from Mr. M. Allen of Belowda (pictured left).

The heifer prize went to Messrs. R.G.T. & G.E. Gilbert of Ruan Minor whose entry of South Devon calves (pictured below) included five nice 6 month old heifers all selling at £525.
