The strategies used to protect privacy vary and may include rounding or other techniques but do not substantially affect the general usefulness of the data. Because of the privacy protections, numerical and percentage totals may not add precisely to the sum of the row or column to which the total refers. NR indicates less than ten students in a subgroup. BANK NOTES A publication of the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank – Volume 5 – No. 1 As the summer approaches, most of us are thinking about summer vacation, wondering what we will do with the kids this summer, or prognosticating about how hot this summer will be. However, there is a segment of our community that is wondering how they will find sufficient food for their kids this summer. Without the free or reduced school lunch program supplementing their already strained food budgets, many of our neighbors are looking to the Food Bank to help fill that summer gap. This comes at time when donations to the Food Bank are not as high on everyone’s radar screen as during the holiday timeframes of Thanksgiving and Christmas. While donations are generally down this time of year, the need for assistance to help feed these children increases dramatically. That creates challenges for the Food Bank to meet this increased need. Last summer was one of the most challenging on record in my 11 years leading your food bank. Food resources and inventory were dangerously low, which limited our ability to fill the increased summer meal gap. We need your assistance to help us avoid the possibilities of food shortages again this summer. We cannot and have never been able to do it without YOU! Humbly, we are your servants and representatives to share your blessings with those most in need in our community. Your Food Bank will not be able to meet the increased demand this summer without your help. Some are already stepping up to help.

  • 2017-2018 Annual Report on the Louisiana Scholarship Program
REPORT TO THE LOUISIANA LEGISLATURE 2017-2018 ANNUAL REPORT ON THE LOUISIANA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM FROM THE LOUISIANA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION INTRODUCTION Established by the Louisiana Legislature in 2008 in New Orleans and expanded statewide in 2012, the Louisiana Scholarship Program (LSP) is designed to provide students with additional opportunities to attend the school of their choice. Student applicants are eligible to receive state-funded Scholarships to enroll in participating nonpublic schools or high-performing public schools. During the 2017-2018 school year, more than 6,900 students from 48 districts enrolled in a school through the Louisiana Scholarship Program. To be eligible for the Louisiana Scholarship Program, a student must be a resident of Louisiana, be entering Kindergarten or have attended a Louisiana public school with a C, D, or F letter grade the previous year, and have a total family household income that does not exceed 250% of the federal poverty guidelines. Scholarship awards average approximately $6,100 per student and cover all tuition and mandatory school fees. Students participating in the Louisiana Scholarship Program are granted admission through a lottery process and are required to take all state assessments. POLICY REQUIREMENTS Louisiana Revised Statute 17:4024 and BESE Bulletin 133 require that the Louisiana Department of Education annually report the following data to the Legislature related to the Louisiana Scholarship Program: • Total number of students receiving scholarships [Appendix A]; • All schools participating in the program [Appendix A]; • All schools participating in the program by legislative district; the total enrollment of each participating school, the number of scholarship recipients enrolled in each school, and the percentage of the total enrollment of each school represented by scholarship recipients [Appendix A]; and • Aggregate test result data for the scholarship recipients enrolled in each participating school [Appendices A and B].

We do so in three ways. 1. The Foundation manages charitable accounts for fund donors. On behalf of them, we distributed more than $44 million to nonprofits in 2018. The grants list starts on page 46. 2. Our donors want the greatest return for the community, so the Foundation’s Strategic Consulting Services division helps nonprofits with strategy, capacity and fundraising. Nonprofits we’ve assisted include Companion Animal Alliance, SportsBR, Gaitway Therapeutic Horsemanship, Connections for Life and USS KIDD Veterans Museum. 3. The Foundation takes on civic projects to improve the quality of life in the region. Our Civic Leadership Initiatives staff partners on these long-term projects with residents, public agencies, nonprofits and elected officials. Projects include better services for children with developmental disabilities, improving K-12 education by helping to recruit the best school operators in the country, justice system reform, leading a master plan to save and enhance the City Park/University Lakes, starting bikeshare to offer more transportation choices, and advocating for inter-city rail between Baton Rouge and New Orleans.
