Now a Current Assistant Coach of the WHL's Lethbridge
PRESENTER BIOGRAPHIES MIKE CRAIG – Lethbridge Hurricanes (November 14) Now a current assistant coach of the WHL’s Lethbridge Hurricanes, Mike had a highly decorated Junior hockey career, including winning a Memorial Cup alongside Eric Lindros with the Oshawa Generals, as well as winning a World Junior gold medal with Team Canada twice. He was also a first round draft choice, 28th overall, by the Minnesota North Stars. Mike would go on to play 423 NHL games for the North Stars, Dallas Stars, Toronto Maple Leafs and San Jose Sharks, as well as 11 seasons in Europe. FRAN GOW – Hockey Alberta (November 28 and December 5) Fran is currently a Coach Mentor in Hockey Development for Hockey Alberta, as well as the Vice President of Hockey Operations for the Alberta Junior Hockey League. Most notably, Fran is one of only three coaches in AJHL history to coach 1,000 regular season games. He achieved this great feat while coaching the Fort McMurray Oil Barons, Grande Prairie Storm, and Drayton Valley Thunder. Fran won an RBC Cup with Fort McMurray in 2000. MATT WENINGER – Hockey Alberta (December 12) Matt is currently the Consultant for Hockey Alberta’s South Regional Centre. He played minor hockey in Lethbridge before moving on to play three seasons in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. He then accepted an NCAA Division I scholarship to St. Lawrence University, graduating as the school’s all-time leader in games played and saves, and was second in all- time wins and shutouts. His coaching career includes stops with Laurentian University (CIS), the University of Lethbridge (CIS), the Yorkton Terriers (SJHL), and extensive work for the Saskatchewan Hockey Association before joining Hockey Alberta. -

Tonight we celebrate outstand - ing achievement and service to our local sports community. We are also excited to recognize the local Lethbridge volleyball community and celebrate the accom - plishments of many of their athletes and builders. Our 2018 inductees include two athletes, Lauren Perry and Carla Pavan, who have made their mark at the highest levels of their sports and continue to value their Southern Alberta roots. Duane Konynenbelt and Steve Wilson are examples of builders who have made an impact on the local sports scene with many young athletes over the course of their careers. The 75 Lethbridge Chargers Soccer Team set a standard of excellence for future local squads to try to emulate. We are proud to recognize these inductees and hope that they enjoy a memorable evening with family and friends tonight. Our 2017 Sportspersons of the Year, Casey and Jessie Scheidegger, and Tyler Wong, enjoyed special years in curling and hockey, respectively. Their success on the ice along with their contributions to the community and the example they have set for young athletes who follow are truly something to celebrate. -
