    Peter Anton SUGATARIUM April 27 - June 17, 2017 UNIX Gallery is excited to present SUGATARIUM, an explosive solo exhibition of new works by artist Peter Anton. SUGATARIUM explores the uncontrollable and insanely addictive hold sugar has on us. In these troubled and unsettled times – where nothing seems to make sense – artist Peter Anton heightens the delirium by transforming Manhattan’s UNIX Gallery into a “SUGATARIUM.” The solo exhibition is on view at UNIX Gallery, 532 W. 24 Street, from April 27 - June 17, 2017. There will be an opening reception on April 27, 2017 at the gallery from 6 - 8 PM. Monumental-sized, vibrant, and hyper-realistic sculptures – including a cherry pie, an ice cream sundae, cake, macarons, and other sugary treats – will be smashed, mushed, splattered, broken and thrown throughout the space. Anton’s sculptures are highly detailed and hand-crafted from carefully selected and manipulated materials, including resin, plaster, wood, clay, aluminum, and acrylic and oil paints. Peter Anton Sugar Madness-Cherry Pie “Sugar raises the dopamine levels in the ‘rewards center’ of our brains,” Mixed media says Anton. “As with many blissful activities, there is a fine line between 74 x 50 x 7 in | 188 x 127 x 18 cm 2017 pleasure and destruction. The vibrant colors and almost violent way the works are depicted illustrate this link.” He describes the transformed space as “an asylum that is locked up and long forgotten. Visitors must sneak into the ‘SUGATARIUM’ through an open window. Article 31 A diplomatic agent shall enjoy immunity from the criminal jurisdiction of the receiving State. I was motivated by the quasi-neglect in which these ephemeral primary sources in art history were held by American commercial channels, and the project to create a database towards the bibliographic recording of largely ignored material. Documentary value and thinness were my only criteria of inclusion. Sources of material were random. Material was acquired as funds could be diverted from my bookshop. With the rapid increase in number and diversity of sources, my initial concept evolved from a documentary to a study archive project on international visual and performing arts, reflecting the appearance of new media and art making/producing practices, globalization, the blurring of lines between high and low, and the challenges to originality and quality as authoritative criteria of classification and appreciation. In addition to painting, sculpture, drawing and prints, performance and video, the Jean-Noël Herlin Archive Project includes material on architecture, design, caricature, comics, animation, mail art, music, dance, theater, photography, film, textiles and the arts of fire. It also contains material on galleries, collectors, museums, foundations, alternative spaces, and clubs.

    Peter Anton I Love You February 4 - March 9, 2016 UNIX Gallery presents I Love You by artist Peter Anton, a visual affirmation of the connection between art and our emotional needs and desires. Featuring new sculptural works inspired by delectable foods, I Love You marks the first solo exhibition at UNIX Gallery Madison, 1015 Madison Ave. New York, NY, on view from February 4 – March 9, 2016. An opening reception will be held in the Upper East Side gallery on Thursday, February 4, 2016 from 6 – 8 PM. Peter Anton is known for his uncanny ability to create art that can lure, charm, tease, disarm and surprise. He uses new sculpture techniques and materials to alter and overstate foods to give them new, delicious meanings.     ANTHONY WOOLF Woolf Call Number 3 Vol. 1 This number of the Woolf Call is devoted largely to the Number One American in Woolf Family History. Perhaps there is no prominent member of our family whom we have studied so much, and about whom we know so little. Even some of the little we have supposed we knew is now under question. What was his name? What brought him to America? When did he come? What were the circumstances that brought him? 4 generations have sought the answer to these questions. We may also ask what has conspired to keep the answers to these simple basic questions from coming to light. Is our lack of knowledge a natural result of the times in which he lived–a time when old government was dying & a new resurgent one was boiling up under foot, not yet well enough established to have found itself, or was the concealment deliberate. It is not difficult to understand & that if our ancestors were a Hessian soldier & deserted from enforced service, in order to espouse the cause of freedom, there would be some precautionary wisdom in the concealment of his identity, lest by any chance his cause should not prosper & he be called to face a military tribunal to account for his absence. One fact we know about our ancestor is that he became a land owner, was naturalized 27 Jan 1797, in New York as Anthony Woolf & certified at that time, as the law required, that he had resided at least 2 years in the United States & one year in the State of New York.

We sent Dean Gus Speth off with a rip- roaring climate change discussion and a promise to keep him close to us as an “honorary F&ES alumnus.” In the same breath, we welcomed incoming Cdean, Sir Peter Crane, with an eagerness to get to know him and to collaborate with him on our School’s next stage of evolution – all of this in the bright light of Kroon Hall, our new home at the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies! Changes outside the School had their impacts too, as budgets became leaner, staff positions fewer, and planning tighter. We realize each and every one of you are dealing with fallout from national and global economic shifts in your own way. This publication, for example, is a combination of two previous keepsake pieces, Reunion Newsletter (since 2003) and Graduation Newsletter (since 2001), published annually for F&ES alumni audiences by our Office. To embrace our new frugality we offer this hybrid publication to the same audiences. In addition, we have taken this opportunity to create an additional feature in providing a briefing on our F&ES Alumni Association Board activities. Once the excitement of Reunion Weekend and Graduation passed, we on the staff planned and executed our office moves into recently updated Sage Hall. At this writing, we have re-inhabited Sage Hall, re-installed our Graduation Photo Gallery, and are settling in with our new dean and our new crop of future F&ES alumni.
