‘Mia san Media Markt’: Bavarian comic Harry G is the new ambassador of the Media Markt stores in the region

Munich, 09.06.2015: Be it live on stage, the Internet, radio or TV, Harry G loves a good moan! He grumbles about the Oktoberfest, cyclists, the development of traditional costumes – and always about wannabe Bavarians. Now Harry G is part of Media Markt’s new regional promotional campaign in and around Munich. Entitled ‘Mia san Media Markt’, it kicks off with a series of videos produced exclusively for the Media Markt stores in Munich, Erding and Karlsfeld, to be shown on social media websites and at cinemas. In addition, Harry G’s sardonic comments can also be heard in Media Markt’s new regional radio campaign.

Since the world’s very first Media Markt opened in Munich back in 1979, the company has expanded to 14 countries. Yet Media Markt is and remains true to its Bavarian roots – and this is something that the four Media Markt stores in Munich as well as the two stores in Erding and Karlsfeld are proud of. They’re reinforcing their sense of local identity in their new, fun image campaign ‘Mia san Media Markt’ (which, in case you don’t speak Bavarian, means ‘We are Media Markt’). And Harry G, someone who knows the district and the people like the back of his hand, is a humorous yet totally authentic partner for Media Markt. “Harry G hits just the right tone when it comes to emphasizing to customers our commitment to the Munich region,” declared Herbert Schlecht who, apart from managing the Media Markt store in Munich-Haidhausen, is also in charge of advertising for Media

Markt’s ‘Munich alliance’. “We couldn’t have wished for a better face for the campaign!”

Sales talks with a difference In the series of short, fast-moving webisodes, Harry G plays salesman Lukas ‘Luggi’ Grollhofer, a somewhat eccentric old hand at Media Markt. Over the episodes, Luggi provides an entertaining insight into his work and demonstrates how he keeps his customers happy with his rather unorthodox sales techniques. “I want customers to leave the store satisfied, not frustrated!” is his motto. In addition, Harry G mimes Media Markt manager Dr Horst Kauzmann. Clearly not from , Dr Kauzmann is visibly impressed by Luggi’s methods and praises him for his especially convivial manner when dealing with customers.

The marketing department of Media Markt and Ogilvy & Mather collaborated on the creation and execution of the regional promotional campaign. The video clips were devised and produced by Harry G himself. In addition, the ‘Mia san Media Markt’ campaign is backed up by billboards and print adverts as well as additional publicity online and at the PoS.

By the way, Luggi’s tips on how to successfully deal with customers can be enjoyed on the web immediately at www.mediamarkt.de/muenchen.
