38th LONGNIDDRY & DISTRICT ANNUAL GALA

A MESSAGE FROM THE 2008 LONGNIDDRY GALA COMMITTEE

This year the 38th Longniddry Gala will start on Saturday June 7th and culminate in Gala Day on Saturday June 14th 2008. There is an even busier programme of events throughout the village, involving even greater numbers of community groups.

The Gala is self-funding, entirely dependent on donations and volunteers. One of our Street Collectors has delivered this programme (once again generously provided for us by Pinpoint ) to your door. The Street Collector will return to collect the envelope, which we hope that you will use to make a donation. This is all ploughed back into the community - this year for example will see the highest number of free rides available on the day, together with our continuing a free ice-cream policy for kids. As well as individual donations we also have support from businesses.

As well as helping out, there are also opportunities for the Gala to help you. Once again this year we are offering community groups the chance to get a covered stall for their use during Gala Day – but you’ll need to be quick as we only have a limited number. We also hope to once again run the Gala Parade on Saturday 14th June, so if Community Groups want to get involved, in what will be a walking parade (without floats) please get in touch. (You can pick up the forms for either the Gala Parade or the Stalls from Nicholson’s News.)

Please get involved by volunteering and letting us know you’ll help. There are several ways to let us know: email us at [email protected], sign up at Nicholson’s News or drop in on one of the fortnightly meetings. These are kindly hosted for us in the Royal British Legion from 8pm. The next ones are on 12 May, 26 May and 02 June. Every offer of help will mean a great deal to us, and will help ensure the continuing success of the Longniddry Gala.

Any change to the Programme after it’s gone to print, plus the latest news, will be posted on the Gala website at www.longniddrygala.org.uk. Thanks also to Calum Stewart, Depute Head of Preston Lodge High School and David Gilmour, Education Network Support Officer at Council, the website this year is brought to us by PLHS students, as part of a project for their Duke of Edinburgh Award. As well as the improved look of the site, this gives us all a great opportunity to get involved by uploading comments and pictures, receive updates and give our own individual feedback.

Thanks, and enjoy Gala Week.
