After reading Book 9, I think this series Volume 9 be retitled "Interminable" because it just goes on and Volume 9 without end! This series should be over by now, there's so little to be said! So this book explores Plutonian's creation, who he is, how he came to be, who his parents are. It sounds promising until you're actually told and it becomes so weird and abstract that even Grant Morrison might stop and w After reading Book 9, I think this Volume 9 should be retitled "Interminable" Irredeemable it just goes on and on Volume 9 end! It sounds promising until you're actually told and it becomes so weird and abstract that even Grant Morrison might stop and wonder what the hell's going on. I've read the creation sequence 3 times now and I'm still not entirely sure what's going on. It reads like something Tom Cruise would believe Irredeemable. The two aliens who've been trapped by man-made radiation, came Volume 9 a far off race who studied everything. They came to Earth, creating an orb of energy that would mimic humanity's attributes and, presumably, go back to the aliens with that information. And this orb was drawn to an insane woman who'd recently murdered her child and then took the form of a child and thus the woman's insanity Irredeemable imprinted upon the child and his alien DNA gave him the powers I give up. This is such a convoluted creation mythos, and at this point I just don't care. This is the penultimate book in the series and he's still avoiding the main players in the series to draw focus on someone else. It's so frustrating because he's always moving away Volume 9 the main Volume 9 to examine another side story that leads nowhere. So we're introduced to the campily named "Max Power" - oh wait, that was Homer Simpson's fake name in one episode. No, this dude is Volume 9 Max Damage. Yeah that's Anyway, he's the main character in Waid's other series "Incorruptible" and I suppose by shoe-horning him into "Irredeemable" which is ending, Waid expects to funnel the readers of this Irredeemable into the other Irredeemable series? Well Irredeemable didn't work on Irredeemable reader. Max Damage is a tool, pure and simple, whose story intertwines with Plutonian's in such a forced way. His appearance in this book was utterly pointless. And then it ends with view spoiler [ Tony safely imprisoned at the end of time, dying a slow death Volume 9 to be saved by Qubit and Max Power! Several problems with this: why the hell does Qubit care about Tony? He only went to the prison planet to save him because Modeus was holding Kaidan hostage and Modeus wanted to go to the prison planet.

The figure of the “metahuman,” the human with superpowers and purpose, embodies the transfigured nerd whose defects—intellect, swarm-behavior, abnormality, flux, and love of machines—become virtues of survival in the twenty-first century. The conflict among capitalism, fascism, and communism, which drove the Cold War and its immediate aftermath, also drove the Golden and Silver Ages of Comics. In the era of planetary emergency, these forces reconfigure themselves as different versions of world-destruction. The metahuman also signifies going “beyond” these economic and political systems into orders that preserve democracy without destroying the biosphere. Therefore, the styles of metahuman figuration represent an appeal to tradition and a technique of transformation. I call these strategies the iconic style and metamorphic style. The iconic style, more typical of DC Comics, makes the hero an icon of virtue, and metahuman powers manifest as visible signs: the “S” of Superman, the tiara and golden lasso of Wonder Woman.

Amid a limited media landscape that otherwise consisted of radio, film, newspaper, and magazines, comics served as a useful tool in engaging readers of all ages to get behind the war effort. The aims of this research was to examine a sampling of messages put forth by comic book publishers before and after American involvement in World War II in the form of fictional comic book stories. In this research, it is found that comic book storytelling/messaging reflected a theme of American isolation prior to U.S. involvement in the war, but changed its tone to become a strong proponent for American involvement post-the bombing of Pearl Harbor. This came in numerous forms, from vilification of America’s enemies in the stories of super heroics, the use of scrap, rubber, paper, or bond drives back on the homefront to provide resources on the frontlines, to a general sense of patriotism.

Their dialogue is by far the most interesting aspect of this volume.There are only a few issues per trade.
