First Reading: Acts 15:1-2, 22-29 Some men informed the Gentiles that they must be circumcised if they wished to be saved, because of the Old Laws. Disciples then went forth to tell the Gentiles to honor only those rules which were strictly necessary, such as abstaining from eating meat sacrificed to idols and illicit sexual union.

Second Reading: Revelation 21:10-14, 22-23 John depicts Jerusalem coming out of heaven, sparkling with the radiance of precious jewels. Angels were stationed at each of its twelve gates, and each gate bore the name of one tribe of Israel. The city had no temple, because God was its temple. The glory and light of God and the Lamb also replaced their need for the sun.

Gospel: John 14:23-29 Jesus tells his disciples, "Anyone who loves me will be true to my word." For those who do honor his word, both Jesus and God will love them and stay with them always. He also tells them that God will send the Holy Spirit in his place to give them the instructions they will need. Jesus then tells them that peace is his farewell gift to them.

A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly

Sixth Sunday of Easter May 26, 2019

“Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and make our dwelling with him. Whoever does not love me does not keep my words; yet the word you hear is not mine, but that of the Father who sent me’… ‘the Advocate, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you.’”

Some recall famous farewell speeches. Others refer to them as pep talks. In business we find motivational speakers. The gospel of John in Jesus’ priestly talks, offers us all three.

How special to realize that because of my dedication and commitment, I am a living dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. How special to know that the Spirit is teaching me today, as a missionary of a loving God. How special, because of my many cares and distractions, that I am reminded of what is of value, the treasure hidden in the field, the pearl of great price. Jesus is not just preparing me for His departure, or entrusting His mission to me, but expects me to carry it out by what I say and do. FIRST SATURDAY DEVOTION On the fifth day of our pilgrimage, we will visit the Stations of the Cross, these stations, and the Chapel of St. Stephen where the Stations end, are called the Hungarian Calvary. They were a gift from Hungarians in exile throughout the world. The Calvary was inaugurated on May 12, 1964. The stained glass windows of the chapel represent the of the First Royal House of Hungary. The chapel was remodeled in 1994. The mosaics on the ceiling above the entrance represent the apparitions in Fatima. The mosaics of the seven sorrows of Our Blessed Mother, which are above the altar, represent the of the Hungarian nation to Our Lady. This consecration was made by St. Stephen in 1038. The mosaics were made in Rome with marble stones from all over the world. June 1st is our next First Saturday. Please join fellow parishioners for the 8:00am Mass followed by the recitation of the Rosary at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. This devotion of the five first Saturdays has been requested by Our Blessed Mother.
