TODAY’S GAME: Tonight’s contest is the 25th game of the season for the Quakes as they take on the Lake Elsinore Storm ( affiliate) with the first pitch set for 7:05PM. Following this series, the next time these two South Division members meet STANDINGS comes on May 28th for a doubleheader, followed by a single game on the 29th. NORTH W L PCT GB VS LAKE ELSINORE: This is the fourth of 30 total meetings between the Quakes and the Storm this season and the first of 15 Visalia 18 6 .750 - games to be played at LoanMart Field. Thus far this season, Rancho swept a three-game set at The Diamond in Lake Elsinore back on Modesto 12 12 .500 6 April 15th from April 17th in what was the first matchup of the year. The Quakes’ pitching staff allowed no more than three runs in Stockton 9 15 .375 9 the three games, winning 4-1 in game one, 8-3 in game two and 4-2 in game three. The first shutout of the year for the Rancho offense capped a seven-game 12 12 .500 2 Lancaster 12 12 .500 2 road trip, where the Quakes went 4-3 overall. The road trip is now their third winning road trip in as many tries. On Sunday, the Lake Elsinore 11 13 .458 3 Nuts used five different pitchers to quiet the Quakes’ offense with RHP Sam Delaplane earning his third win of the season by tossing a perfect 1.2 innings in relief. The two brightspots of Sunday’s loss for Rancho was Marcus Chiu going 2-for-4 with a double and Ryan Moseley tossing a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning to lower his ERA to 0.68 in 10 total appearances. CAL LEAGUE SCOREBOARD WATCH OUT CAL LEAGUE: In 2018, Connor Wong took Cal League pitching deep 19 times with 60 RBI, hitting at a .269 clip. YESTERDAY Although Wong did not pick up where he left off last season to start 2019, the Houston, TX native is certainly trending in the right direction. Wong went 7-for-23 on the previous seven-game road trip, raising his batting average 50 points from .156 to .206. Four out RANCHO CUCAMONGA 0 at Modesto 7 of his seven hits went for extra-bases, racking up three doubles and a home run, his fifth round-tripper of the year. Stockton 3 at San Jose 2 ROAD SWEET ROAD: The road has been quite kind to the Quakes to start the 2019 season as they are an impressive 12-5 on Visalia 3 at Lancaster 4 enemy turf. On the contrary, Rancho is just 2-5 at the friendly confines of LoanMart Field. However, the Quakes have won two out of their last three games at home. They hope to turn their fortunes around in May as Rancho has 16 opportunies to play at home. MICHAEL GROVE: The No. 14 prospect in the Dodgers’ system, RHP Michael Grove will start for the fifth time this season and his TODAY first time versus the Lake Elsinore Storm. In his first professional season, Grove has pitched to a 5.00 ERA, giving up five earned runs in a limited nine innings of work. The Wheeling, WV native’s last appearance was against the on April 24th, Lake Elsinore at RANCHO CUCAMONGA, 7:05 PM where the Quakes came out victorious by a final score of 3-2. This turned out to be Grove’s best appearance since his professional -de San Jose at Inland Empire, 7:05 PM but on April 8th as he tossed two clean innings with four strikeouts, one hit and no free-passes. The Dodgers used their 68th overall Lancaster at Modesto, 7:05 PM pick on the right-hander in the second round of last year’s draft. Visalia at Stockton, 7:10 PM MACKENZIE GORE: LHP MacKenzie Gore makes his fifth start of the season and his second start against the Quakes in the 2019 campaign. Last time out against Rancho on April 17th, Gore toed the rubber across from rehabber Rich Hill, allowing a season-high two earned runs over six innings of work. However, Gore finished strong, picking off a runner to end the second and retiring the final TOMORROW 12 batters he faced. Overall, the Wilmington, NC native has worked in 22 innings, allowing just three earned runs with 27 strikeouts Lake Elsinore at RANCHO CUCAMONGA, 10:35 AM and only three walks. The No. 2 overall prospect in the Padres farm system has pitched to a career 3.12 ERA with a career 135 strike- San Jose at Inland Empire, 7:05 PM outs and just 28 walks. Gore was drafted with the number three overall pick by the Friars in the first round of the 2017 draft.
