Previous meetings • Although this is the clubs' first official encounter, they have met in friendly matches. City beat Celtic 2-1 in Manchester in August 2009 with Gareth Barry and Carlos Tévez scoring either side of Chris Killen. Pablo Zabaleta was in City's team that day along with Kolo Touré, now a Celtic player. • The teams had previously drawn 1-1 in a July 2008 friendly at Celtic Park, Paul McGowan cancelling out Martin Petrov's strike for City. Match background Celtic • Celtic posted home wins over Gibraltar's Lincoln FC (3-0), Kazakhstan's FC Astana (2-1) and Israel's Hapoel Beer- Sheva FC (5-2) in qualifying for this season's UEFA Champions League group stage. However, in the UEFA Europa League group stage last term they took only one point from three games at Celtic Park. • Celtic's home record against English clubs is W4 D3 L2. • Their most recent visitors from south of the border were Arsenal FC, 2-0 winners in a UEFA Champions League qualifying tie in August 2009 with a team including Bacary Sagna and Gaël Clichy. • Celtic last overcame English opposition a decade ago when defeating City's neighbours Manchester United FC 1-0 with a Shunsuke Nakamura free-kick in a UEFA Champions League group stage fixture in November 2006. Manchester City • For City this is the first official meeting with a team from Scotland. Josep Guardiola's men beat Scottish Premier League side St Johnstone FC 3-0 in a pre-season friendly behind closed doors at their training ground in Manchester on 3 August through goals from Fabian Delph, David Silva and Fernandinho. • City's record on the road in the 2015/16 UEFA Champions League was W3 D1 L2. Coach and player links • Brendan Rodgers' first match managing in the Premier League was a 4-0 defeat at City with Swansea City AFC in August 2011, though later that season he oversaw a 1-0 home win over the Manchester club. As Liverpool FC manager he saw his team finish two points behind City in the race for the league title in 2013/14. His record against them with the Reds was W2 D2 L2. • Rodgers gave Raheem Sterling his first league start as a Liverpool player in October 2012. • Kolo Touré played for City from 2009 to 2013 and won the Premier League (2012) and FA Cup (2011) with the club. Last season he appeared as a 25th-minute substitute in the Liverpool team beaten on penalties by City in the English League Cup final. • Yaya Touré, brother of Kolo, is a City player but is absent from their UEFA Champions League squad. • Patrick Roberts is on loan at Celtic from City where he played three games last term – one in the Premier League and two in the English League Cup. • Dedryck Boyata was a City player between 2008 and 2015 but made only 13 Premier League appearances. • Vincent Kompany faced Celtic with RSC Anderlecht in the 2003/04 UEFA Champions League group stage, winning 1-0 at home but losing 3-1 in Glasgow. • Kompany was sent off when his Belgium side won 1-0 at Nir Bitton's Israel in a UEFA EURO 2016 qualifier in March 2015. Kevin De Bruyne also featured. • Jesús Navas won the 2007 UEFA Cup with Sevilla FC at Glasgow's Hampden Park, beating RCD Espanyol in the final. • Mark Lawwell, son of Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell, works for City as their scouting information and content manager. • Have played together: 4 Celtic FC - Manchester City FC Wednesday 28 September 2016 - 20.45CET (19.45 local time) Match press kit Celtic Park, Glasgow Kolo Touré & Sterling (Liverpool FC) Scott Sinclair & Delph (Aston Villa FC) Logan Bailly, Boyata & Kompany (Belgium) • Billy McNeill, Celtic's European Cup-winning captain in 1967, was City manager between 1983 and 1986. Match facts Celtic • Celtic's perfect start to the Scottish Premiership season was ended by Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC on 18 September, the Highland outfit twice coming from behind to earn a 2-2 draw. • Sinclair was on the scoresheet for the sixth consecutive league game on Saturday as Celtic recovered from a goal down to beat Kilmarnock FC 6-1. • The Inverness game marked Jozo Šimunović's first appearance for Celtic since 23 January. • The 2-0 home win against Alloa Athletic FC in the Scottish League Cup quarter-finals on 21 September – secured by late goals from James Forrest and Moussa Dembélé – represented Rodgers's team's first clean sheet in eight matches. Manchester City • Guardiola has started his reign as City manager with ten successive victories. • City's last defeat in any competition came in the second leg of the 2015/16 UEFA Champions League semi-finals, 1- 0 against Real Madrid CF. • Sergio Agüero returned from a three-game domestic ban by scoring twice in the 3-1 win away to Swansea on Saturday. • Ilkay Gündoğan scored on his Premier League debut as City triumphed 4-0 against AFC Bournemouth on 17 September. • Clichy's first goal since 30 November 2014 set the Citizens en route to a 2-1 victory at Swansea in the English League Cup on 21 September. Holders City will visit Manchester United FC in the fourth round next month. • Making his first appearance for club or country since 4 May, Kompany sustained a groin injury late on in the cup tie against Swansea.

PREVIEW ISSUE FOUR – 24TH APRIL 2012 MADRID CLOSE IN REAL TAKE THE SPOILS IN THE EL CLASICO AND CLOSE IN ON THE SILVERWARE After a poor week for both sides in Europe, Real and Barca were desperate to grab a win against their biggest rivals on a dramatic, rain-lashed Saturday night at the Nou Camp. It was Real that grabbed the vital win and probably clinched the La Liga title. Los Merengues went ahead through German midfielders Sami Khedira and were comfortable for long periods, but Barca’s Chilean substitute Alexis Sánchez equalised with just 20 minutes remaining. Cristiano Ronaldo’s clinical strike just three minutes later settled the game with Madrid now seven points clear, with only four games remaining. Madrid coach José Mourinho named an very attacking team and his side began the better. Ronaldo’s early header from a corner brought a superb flying save from goalkeeper Víctor Valdés. His opposite number Iker Casillas was then quickly off his line when full-back Dani Alves dispossessed Sergio Ramos. The game was being played at a fearsome pace and French striker Karim Benzema brought the best out of Valdés again. Barca thought they had gone front when Alves had the ball in the net after a Cristian Tello run, but the youngster had been flagged offside.
