HAPPY BIRTHDAY FIRST team stars Andy Carroll and Adrian both celebrated their birthdays this week, and we marked the occasion across our social channels. Andy turns 28 today, so we will all be hoping he makes it a very happy birthday with a win over City, while Adrian celebrated his 30th on Tuesday. We recalled some of the best moments both have enjoyed in a Claret and Blue shirt on Twitter and Facebook, so make sure you head there if you missed them!

MAN OF THE MATCH THE result didn’t go our way against Manchester United on Monday, but the Hammers gave a resilient performance in the face of adversity following Sofi ane Feghouli’s early red card. You appreciated their e“ orts and voted your Man of the Match on Twitter, with 33 per cent of the vote. Make sure you have your say and vote for your top Hammer tonight at twitter.com/WestHamUtd

BIRTHDAY BOY Andy Carroll is planning to celebrate turning 28 with another memorable Emirates FA Cup performance

@AndyTCarroll @andytcarroll

ANDY Carroll turns 28 today – and he has more reason to celebrate this birthday than most. West Ham United’s talismanic centre forward is fi t and in form, having made an impressive return to fi rst-team action after missing three months of the season with a knee problem. Often unfairly derided for an injury record that has blighted his career in the four-and-a-half years he has been a Hammer, Carroll possesses a steely determination to prove his doubters wrong. Working hard on the training pitch and in the gym with the Club’s medical and sports science sta , and at his partner Billi Mucklow’s yoga studio near his Essex home, the No9 has looked sharp in the seven appearances he has made since making his comeback against Arsenal a month ago. Goals against the Gunners and in the Boxing Day win at Swansea City have come in addition to intelligent link-up play, non-stop hassling of the opposition defence, trademark towering headers and fl ick-ons and numerous valuable clearances from inside the Hammers’ own penalty area. ”It has been good to be back, I feel good on the pitch, I’m training well and it’s nice to be back getting goals,” Carroll confi rmed. “Personally, I don’t think about it [injuries] to be honest, the physios ask me about it. I just forget about the past, as soon as it’s over I just get on with it. It just happens that way, all I want is to get back on the pitch and give it 100 per cent.”

PHYSICAL THIS evening, he will face Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City – a side which has struggled to contain physical centre forwards like Carroll so far this season. While the visitors will be the favourites to progress to the Emirates FA Cup fourth round, the ‘Big Man’ could play a major role in helping the Hammers to upset the odds at London Stadium.

I remember he wasn’t happy with me in the tunnel afterwards which was fair enough but to be honest I didn’t care. “I just remember that we had a great balance to the team. We had a young British nucleus to the squad and the foreign players integrated well also. “That team had a real intensity about it and that was the fi rst thing I noticed when I came to West Ham from Norwich. Despite a late consolation goal from Kiki Musampa, the Hammers held on to win 2-1 and progress to a semi-final tie with Middlesbrough at Villa Park.
