Barron Chamber of Commerce Meeting Minutes July 19, 2012 At City Hall

In attendance: Duane Talbert Jan Jorgenson Dave Wiehe Larry Greener Laurie Wooldridge Kristen Bernal Leo Severson Pat Thornby Shawn Larson Sandy Eiden

Moved by Dave Wiehe, seconded by Pat Thornby to approve the minutes of the June 21st board meeting as presented.

Jan presented the financial statement. Moved by Laurie Wooldridge, seconded by Larry Greener to approve the June financial statement.

Committee Reports:

1. Annual meeting: Since Laurie has completed the Power point presentation for the Annual meeting the last few years the new committee may need help when putting it together.

2. Spring Fling: Since all current committee members have retired from the board, new members may also need help from Leo or other past committee members in 2013.

3. Business & Industry: August 1. Golfers have been emailed by Tony to join the Golf event. Jan was asked to help collect the money the day of the event. Bean Bag and other games will be available at the picnic. Number may be down because of the band in Rice Lake that same night and another golf outing for Boys & Girls Club the next Wed.

4. Festival Events: Sept. 22. Jan reported that the Fall Fest post should be ready by August 1. Events planned for that Sat. are City Wide Garage Sales, Scarecrow, Golden Pumpkin, Lyndon Ellefson, Bike Ride, Kid’s Fest, Kiddie Parade, a band at the VFW and Skate Park Competition. New events are a Golf Outing, city wide food drive, Vendors on LaSalle Friday, card making workshop, Spotlighters play and Cribbage Tournament. The Boys & Girls Club will help collect items for the City Wide food drive. Dave mentioned that maybe the school clubs would do something for fundraising during Fall Fest.

5. Retail Promotions: The committees met and discussed doing a Poker card or Bingo and possibly have it run during Fall Fest. Dave discussed having the board members visit the businesses to get feedback of their needs.

6. Young Ambassador/Membership: Rebecca Bee attended the Prairie Farm parade in July. 7. Administrative: The newsletter will again be distributed starting in September. Laurie will be collecting information and having Jan put it together. Articles from the Young Ambassadors, Fall Fest, new board members and businesses will be featured. The website upgrade was approved at the city council meeting; the project will take approximately 4-6 months. Dues letters will be going out in November. A new gift certificate program was discussed, Jan will put something together regarding purchasing them at local financial institutions.

8. Budget/Finance: The committee has not met.

Other Business- Representing the Barron Economic Development Corporation Larry Greener discussed their plans to start a POD building. Grants and city investment is being sought. Farm Technology Days is July 13-15 2013 and volunteers are needed to man a food booth. The Chamber is being asked to volunteer. A motion was made to have the chamber volunteer and it passed.
