ACT (American College Test)- a Group of Tests Administered by ACT and Required Or Recommended

Terminology

ACT (American College Test)- A group of tests administered by ACT and required or recommended by most colleges as part of the admission process. ACT scores range from 1-36. Current cost is $38.00 for non-writing test and $54.50 for ACT with writing. Fee waivers are available (free/reduced lunch is a qualifier).

CA (College Academy)- A program offered at Orrville High School that allows students to earn high school and college credits while taking classes at OHS.

COMPASS- A comprehensive computer-adaptive testing system from ACT that helps place students into appropriate college courses and maximizes information needed to ensure student success. COMPASS is free, and Stark State offers this as an alternative for students who did not qualify on the ACT.

College Credit Plus (CC+)- New terminology which replaces the terms “dual enrollment” and “post-secondary.” Classes through this program are taken concurrently for high school and college credit. Students can take advantage of CC+ options at DHS, on a college campus, or at Orrville High School through the College Academy if qualifying scores are met.

Drop Form- This form should be used when a student decides they don’t want to earn college credits for a course they are enrolled in. If the student is taking the course(s) at DHS, they can still remain in the class for high school credit only.

Qualifying Scores- Student must “qualify” to receive college credit. Admission requirements may vary from one college to another.

SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test)- A test of verbal, written and mathematical abilities given by the College Board throughout the year and required or recommended by colleges as part of the admission process. SAT scores range from 1-1800 on each section. Cost is currently $52.50. Fee waivers are available (free/reduced lunch is a qualifier).

Transcript- The official record of high school or college courses and grades. It is generally required as part of the college application. Students must “order” a copy of their college transcripts to take with them to college as well as their high school transcript.
