It is with great sadness that we have to announce that, having bravely struggled with serious illness over the past eighteen months, Ruth Haggis died on Saturday 6th August, aged (very nearly) 31.

Please remember Tim and Ruth, Bekki and Nathaniel and the wider family in your prayers at this sad time.

A funeral service for Ruth will take place at St John’s Church on Thursday 25th August at 11.00am followed by burial at Longmoor Lane Cemetery.

Pray for the family of Muriel Burton, who died on Friday 22nd July. Muriel’s funeral service will take place at St. John’s Church at 1.00pm on Thursday 1st September followed by a Committal at Bramcote Crematorium.

The next Sacred Space service will be on Sunday 4th September at 7.30pm.

Church Office: The Church office will be staffed for 2 hours on: Monday 15th, Friday 19th, Monday 22nd and Friday 26th August

Appointment of New Vicar: Revd Samantha Tredwell

The Churchwardens are delighted to announce the appointment of the Revd Samantha Tredwell, Team Vicar in the Newark with Coddington Team Ministry, as the new vicar of St John's. Sam will move into the parish, with her husband Robert and daughters Siân and Martha, at the end of August. There will be a Service of Collation and Induction at St John’s on Thursday 15th September at 7.30pm. Sam will also be spending some time as Assistant Diocesan Director of Vocations for Derby Diocese.

Please pray for Sam and her congregation at Christ Church, Newark as her ministry there draws to a close, and for Sam, Robert, Siân and Martha as they move to Long Eaton.

Summer Notices Notices sheets will next be produced on these dates during the school summer holidays as follows: 28th August and 4th September and weekly thereafter.

Summer refreshments During the summer services we will be having cold drinks after the 10.30am service. Please sign up on the sheet at the back of church if you are able to help serve.

Summer Services Our regular groups for young people start again on the 11th September all our services until then are planned to be suitable for all ages.

Over the summer we shall be looking at one of Jesus’ parables each week. Join us for some new insights into why Jesus spoke to his listeners in parables and what he was telling them and us through the following parables:

14th August – Holy Communion – “The Pearl”

21st August – Morning Worship – “The House on the Rock”

28th August – Holy Communion – “The Lost Son”

Become a ‘Friend of Canaan Trust’. Canaan Trust, the local Christian charity helping to meet the needs of vulnerable people who find themselves homeless, is pleased to announce a new initiative called the ‘Friends of Canaan Trust. David Gee, Chair of Trustees says, “Whilst grateful for the support already received, we want to strengthen our links with the local community and encourage individuals to become interested and maybe involved in our work in whatever way they can.” Further details are available on the noticeboard in the foyer or from Andy West.
