LOCAL FREE TAX PREPARATION SITES OPEN MONDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 2015

Valuable Tax Credit Available to Some Low and Moderate Income Workers

Spokane, WA. --- Free tax sites will open as of Monday, February 2, with IRS certified volunteers available to assist people who earn less than $52,427 in preparing and e-filing their taxes free at eight locations throughout Spokane County. Most sites will remain open through Wednesday,

April 15.

Last year volunteers helped more than 5,018 local residents claim over $1.7 million in Earned Income Tax Credits (ETIC) and bring millions in refunds into the local economy. The free tax service is a partnership of the Spokane County United Way, AARP, IRS, and CASH, a local asset building coalition that provides opportunities for lower income working families to acquire save and grow money and other assets.

According to the IRS, single or married, with or without children, people who worked in 2014 and made less than $52,427 may get extra money back from the Earned Income Tax Credit. If eligible, the maximum credit is:

-  $3,305 with one qualifying child

-  $5,460 with two qualifying children

-  $6,143 with three or more qualifying children

-  $496 with no qualifying children

People having their taxes done should come bring the following items:

·  2013 Tax Return

·  Valid Picture Identification

·  Social Security cards for you, spouse and all household members

·  All income statements, such as 2014 W-2s, 1098, 1099 forms for you and spouse

·  Any Form 1095 – Health Insurance Marketplace Statement (if applicable)

·  Proof of other income from you or spouse and banking information

·  Child care provider information

·  Property tax information ( if homeowner)

·  Form 1098T & education expenses for students

Note, the free tax preparation sites are unable to prepare rental or farm income tax returns.
