Senate Minutes September 8, 2015

I.  CALL TO ORDER

The Senate meeting was called to order at 11:00 by Mr. Joseph Bree

II.  APPROVAL OF MINUTES

The approval of May 12, 2015 Senate minutes was moved by Dr. Mark Williams and seconded by Dr. Derrek Dunn. The motion carried.

III.  OLD BUSINESS

Campus Climate Committee:

Ms. Kimberly Conway Dumpson, Chair of the Campus Climate Committee gave an update on the work of the committee; please refer to the PDF File on the Senate Page for more information re: each of the recommendations.

Academic Affairs Committee:

Dr. Latasha Wade, Chair of the Senate Academic Affairs Committee (SAAC), gave an update on the work of the committee; please refer to the PPT presentation on the Senate Page for more information re: submission timeline for AY2015-2016, program submission, curriculum changes for courses only and new programs substantial modifications and each of the programs below.

Agriculture, Food, and Resources Science:

·  ANPT 188B (change course title)

·  ANPT 189B (change course title)

·  ANPT 388A (change course title)

·  ANPT 388B ((change course title)

·  ANPT 488B ((change course title)

·  New courses (all 3 credit courses)

o  ANPT 301 AND ANPT 410

Motion to approve changes by Dr. Robert Johnson. Seconded by Ms. Michel Demanche. The motion carried.

Criminal Justice

·  MCCJ 734 (Directed individual study from 1-3 credits fall and spring; max of 6 credits)

Motion to approve changes by Dr. Mark Williams. Seconded by Dr. Robert Johnson. The motion carried.

Education:

·  New courses (all 1-6 credit courses)

o  SPED 608

Motion to approve changes by Ms. Michel Demanche. Seconded by Dr. Mark Williams. The motion carried.

English and Modern Language Proposals:

·  ENGL 301 (change course title)

·  ENGL 302 (change course title)

·  ENGL 321 (change course title)

·  ENGL 322 (change course title)

·  ENGL 328 (change course title)

·  ENGL 329 (change course title)

Motion to approve changes by Ms. Demanche. Seconded by Dr. Mark Williams. The motion carried.

Honors:

·  GNST 188H (change course number)

·  New courses (all 3 credit courses)

o  HONR 201, HONR 301

·  New courses (all 1-4 credit courses)

o  HONR 496

·  Establish a new Honors Program of Study (completion of at least 24 hours of honors coursework

·  Update catalog description for Honors Program

Motion to approve changes by Dr. Williams. Seconded by Dr. Dunn. The motion carried.

Mathematics and Computer Science:

·  Update catalog description for computer science business focus business electives

·  Replace MKTG 310, FINA 441, BUAD 303, AND BUAD 412 with BUAD 34, BUAD 313, AND BUAD 430

·  New courses (all 3 credit courses)

o  MATH 219, MATH 319, MATH 330, MATH 333, and MATH 419

·  Create new minor in Applied Statistics (21 credits hours)

o  MATH 210, MATH 219, MATH 309 MATH 310 or MATH 360, MATH 319, MATH 333 and MATH 419

·  Update course description for minor program in in department

Motion to approve changes by Dr. Derrek Dunn. Seconded by Dr. Mark Williams. The motion carried.

Career and Technology Education (BMI):

·  Remove 8 courses from concentration: courses will be used in other concentrations/programs within the program:

o  CMTE 313, CMTE 314, CMTE 315, CMTE 316, CMTE 317, CMTE 413, CMTE 414, and CMTE 454

Motion to approve changes by Dr. Molavi. Seconded by Dr. Dunn. Abstain by Dr. Williams, Dr. Whitehead, and Dr. Liverpool. The motion carried.

Career and Technology Education (BMI):

·  New courses (all 3 credit hour)

o  CMTE 319, CMTE 320, CMTE 321, CMTE 322, CMTE 326, CMTE 427, CMTE 440, and CMTE 450

·  Update catalog description of concentration

Motion to approve changes by Dr. Molavi. Seconded by Dr. Dunn. The motion carried.

IV.  NEW BUSINESS

Academic Affairs Committee Chair Election

Dr. Derrek B. Dunn is the new Chair of the committee

V.  OTHER BUSINESS

Parliamentarian was appointed by Chair Ms. McNeil. She appointed Ms. Jamila Johnson.
