UJA-Federation of New York Caring Commission The Daniel Jordan Fiddle Foundation Ignition Grant Award for Innovative Young Adult and Adult Autism Services

2011–2012 Ignition Grant Award

Ignition Grant Objective The Daniel Jordan Fiddle Foundation Ignition Grant Award for Innovative Young Adult and Adult Autism Services, established by UJA-Federation of New York, the Hilibrand Foundation, and the Daniel Jordan Fiddle Foundation (the Participating Organizations), aims to provide seed money to pilot a new, innovative program in the field to enable young adults and adults ages 16 and older and living with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) to have access to opportunities that will allow them to achieve additive levels of independence (the Program). The grant may advance opportunities related but not limited to:

 Social skills  Employment  Education  Personal health and wellness  Housing or residential situations

Pilot concepts must establish a new service, capitalize on an unrealized opportunity, target a new population, or otherwise push the boundaries of what is currently available in the Jewish community.

Grant Criteria Ignition grant proposals must:

 Target underserved young adults or adults living with ASD (for example, socioeconomic, geographic, age-related, and so forth).  Establish a clear understanding of communal need and target audiences.  Provide a clear vision of program outcomes.  Demonstrate the capacity of the organization to design and implement the program, as well as document the possibility for large-scale expansion.  Demonstrate how this program will serve participants by offering a new, unfulfilled, and unique opportunity in your community.

Organizations awarded the ignition grant will be required to submit a programmatic evaluation to UJA- Federation of New York at the end of the grant term. This evaluation will include the program development process, quality of services, program weaknesses, the impact on the audience or community, growth of the audience, organizational growth, and a realistic assessment of programmatic growth, if applicable. Applicants must demonstrate that they have engaged key constituents in the overall planning process for the Program. In addition, photographs and video of the Program in action will be requested, including photo release forms from all participants that grant permission to each of the Participating Organizations to use such images to promote and expand awareness about the Program.

For the purposes of this program, young adults are defined as 16 years old and older.
