TROOP 166 TRIP BULLETIN CAMPOREE 2008 May 16 - 18, 2006 DESTINATION: Camporee 2008, Camp Brinkley – Snohomish, WA

DEPART: Assemble at 3:30pm Friday at Wedgwood Presbyterian Church parking lot, in full uniform, for uniform and pack inspection. All personal gear --everything-- must be packed and transportable in one hiking trip. The troop will depart at 4:00pm. SHARP!!!

PROGRAM: Hike in to campsites. Challenge events of inter-patrol competitions and camping, awards, and fun. Saturday lunch will be the Meal Inspection for all Units. Patrols will have the opportunity to invite a Webelos and his parent to join them for lunch. Make sure you have enough food to feed four extra people for that meal: troop adult, Webelos Scout, his parent and a meal judge. ALWAYS KEEP CAMPSITE NEAT FOR SURPRISE INSPECTIONS. ROUTE: Driving: Take 35th Ave North. Turn Right onto Lake City Way- Hwy 522. Follow Hwy 522 to Monore. Turn Left onto Hwy 2. At the Safeway turn Left onto Woods Creek Road. Continue for about 10.3 miles- at each fork bear RIGHT. Turn RIGHT onto South Lake Roesiger Road. In 2.5 miles turn RIGHT onto Monroe Log Camp Road. In 1.5 miles bear RIGHT at ”Camp Brinkley/Casecae Scout Reservation” sign and proceedd to parking lot on the Right.

Total Estimated Time: 1 HR 10 Min. on a good traffic day. Allow 1.5 hours at least. Total Estimated Distance: 44 miles one way

Hiking: Carry all camping gear in one trip. Camporee rules allow for one return trip to cars for coolers and patrol boxes.

EQUIPMENT: This trip is an overnight backpack challenge, practicing Scout skills and Leave No Trace (LNT). Scouts must be prepared for potential wet weather and cold. Full uniform, backpack, hiking boots- mandatory, personal camping and eating gear. Bring a daypack for activities, with your essentials. Bring your 10+ essentials including extra clothing and rain gear for possible wet and cold conditions, sun protection, map and compass, quart water bottle (filled), trail food, waterproof matches and fire starters, a pocketknife, first-aid kit, flashlight and batteries. Overnight camping gear includs a warm sleeping bag, your Scout Handbook, pen and paper, 50ft. of rope uncut, and additional tie lines totaling 50ft (cut this into 4 or 5 equal sections). Each Patrol should plan their campfire skits ahead of time so they can bring any props that might be needed.

Patrols are required to bring sufficient tents and rain flys, sufficient large water containers for LNT camping (four one gallon jugs), and coordinate cooking gear, stoves (at least two) and fuel (campfires are permitted only in designated fire pits).

For Camporee, patrols are required to bring Patrol flag, one large first-aid kit, lashing rope and extra staves, twine for roped-off axe yard, posted patrol menus, and duty rosters, trash bags, buckets, and camp shovel.

For Camporee, troop is required to bring troop flag, US flag, trash bags, alarm clock, and something for the troop Gateway. Fuel not in stoves must be kept by Troop adult leaders.

FOOD: The patrols are responsible for preparing dinner on Friday and Saturday, breakfast on Saturday and Sunday. Each patrol will invite an adult to join them and may invite a webelos and his parent for Saturday Lunch. Thus Patrols must plan a Patrol lunch for Saturday meal inspection with sufficient food for 4 extra- Adult, webelos and parent, judge. Provide your own snack or trail food for Saturday and Sunday. Provide your own lunch for Sunday unless your patrol makes other arrangements. Trading post will be open.

FEE: $20.00 CASH. This covers transportation and Camporee registration. Provide an additional $10.00 CASH (or whatever amount your Patrol decides to cover food costs) to your patrol (*all* adults too) for food expenses at the troop meeting Monday May 12th. Make sure you have enough food to feed four extra people for Lunch: A troop 166 adult, a Webelos Scout, and his parent, and a meal judge.

RETURN: Back to Church parking lot approx. 2-3pm on Sunday. Each patrol will be responsible for restoring their site. Troop will arrive back at cars at the trailhead about 1:00 pm. Troop will call the phone tree contact on the way back.
