You can choose just about any country except for countries in the Caribbean, Australia and Not Canada or the USA. Other people in the school may drop in for a visit on that day. Presentation Date: June (last week on classes)
Requirements:
1. Poster of Country (must do A & B)
Part A: Tourist Attractions
· You must profile 5 (FIVE) tourist destinations/attractions for your country.
· Your job is to motivate and inform your readers (potential tourists) to visit these particular destinations – cities, parks, regions, attractions, sites, etc.
· Profiles must include the following applicable components: directions with map (if applicable), what it is, where it is located, a description (you want to motivate), costs, and any other key information!

Part B: Map(s)
· Your map of the region should show the location of the above-mentioned five tourist destinations/attractions of your country. Show a Route if necessary.
· Also, include other major characteristics such as cities, landforms, water bodies and surrounding countries, etc.
· You can access a blank map from the Internet. Then, label it with appropriate locations and features.
· One site is: http://geography.about.com/library/blank/blxindex.htm
· You will decide what to show on the map, but it shouldn’t leave out obvious and well-known features. Follow all map rules. Include a legend. Neatness is important!
· Additional maps may be printed off from the computer or scanned, but you must complete one map by yourself!
2. Sample Itinerary (Planning a Trip)
· Use the Internet and resources to plan a sample itinerary of 2 days of the trip.
· Provide a detailed itinerary for two days: distances traveled, attractions visited. Account for each hour of the day. Include mealtimes.
· Indicate which mode of transportation you will be using for each segment and day of the trip.
· See sample itinerary provided.
· (attach this to the bottom or side of the poster)
3. Marketing an Attraction
Develop one-page poster advertisement of a product of your country (as you did with the Caribbean). Think of a product as a tourist experience or set of experiences, as a result of being involved in an activity. Target a particular market (i.e. families, bird-watchers, etc.) throughout your advertisement.
Keep the following in mind:
o Complete the advertisement planning sheet (attach this to the back of your advertisement)
o Capture the ‘feel’ of the tourist experience
o Use a ‘hook’ to capture attention and to provide a link with your potential customer
o Include a major image(s)
o Have a captivating message/slogan.
o Think of ‘features’ and ‘benefits’
o Be creative and go beyond typical advertisements that you see
4. Tackling an Issue – Newspaper Article
· You are a reporter for Maclean’s Magazine and have been sent to your region to investigate a particular issue or challenge that your region is facing.
· In your article, you must present the 5 W’s of journalism – Who, What, Where, When, Why and How - to your readers.
· The article should be at least one page.
· As an objective journalist, you must present both sides of the issue equally!
· The textbook provides an issue for each region.
· All writing must be in your own words.
OR
Presentation of Cultural FOOD
· You will research a food dish that is unique to your country and prepare this dish for sampling by classmates (and maybe other teachers??).
· Use ingredients that can be purchased locally.
· Make a dish that can be served in small portions.
· Do not include raw meat or raw eggs.
· Prepare a display card that identifies your food dish and lists the ingredients. This is especially important as some participants may have severe allergies to certain products.
5. Bibliography
· On a separate page, include a bibliography of all sources of information, including web-sites, books, magazines, newspapers, etc.
· Format the bibliography correctly. Follow the library documentation guide. You can down-load this from our school web site.
