Course syllabus

CONTENT:

Honors Algebra II is a fast paced in depth study of Algebra topics designed for mathematically talented student who are in an accelerated program. This course covers:

·  equations and inequalities

·  linear equations and function

·  system of equations and inequalities

·  linear programming

·  matrices

·  polynomials

·  complex numbers

·  quadratic equations and function

·  polynomial equations and functions

·  conic sections

·  variation

·  rational, exponential, logarithmic equations

·  sequences and series

·  probability and statistics

·  problem solving and reasoning skills

GRAPHING CALCULATORS

The use of TI graphing calculators will be incorporated with the content throughout the course. TI-84 calculators will be available for classroom checkout only; however having your own is strongly recommended /necessary. A TI-84 plus is highly recommended and will also be required for college.

GRADING:

Test 45%

Quizzes 30%

Assignments 5%

Final Exam 20%

MAKE-UP WORK:

Missing grades are counted as a “0” until made up. Make-up work is due in a timely manner and only accepted if the absence is excused. Students are given 5 days to arrange make-up Tests. Quizzes may be announced, unannounced, or take-home. In-class quizzes may not be made up - the related chapter test will replace that missing grade. The final exam may not be exempted!

ATTENDANCE:

Regular attendance is expected for success. Because this is a fast-paced class, you will miss work that will not be retaught upon your return. It is your responsibility to copy all notes and complete all missed assignments. Please return to school up-to-date with the class as each lesson depends on previous knowledge.

EXTRA CREDIT:

Individual extra credit assignments are not given. Bonus points, if offered, will be available throughout the semester to all students on an equal basis and will be related to the academic content of the course.

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.  Adhere to all student policies in Student Handbook.

2.  Be in your seat and prepared to start when the bell rings.

3.  Be prepared with completed assignments, textbook, paper, pencil, and graphing calculator.

4.  Show respect to all people and property around you.

5.  Participate at all times.
