Year 6 News
Wow, what a fantastic week for Year 6 at Riverside this week. In the mornings Year 6 have been getting ready for their upcoming SATS's tests, learning about fractions and division in maths. Well done to NurSabreen and Samiah for using the fraction blocks independently to solve problems, fantastic! In English Year 6 have been learning how to debate and what a debate we had..next stop Parliament! You can see Jordan here presenting a clear and well-ordered argument.
During our afternoon learning Year 6 have been exploring the topic of electricity in science. This week they tested their predictions about what would happen if you change different components. There was great teamwork and a big well done to Faiz for using scientific vocabulary so brilliantly! We have also been exploring African masks linked to our topic on Africa and this week tackled our first new material, clay. Crystal used her preparation sketch and carefully reproduced the image in clay, well done! Finally Year 6 have been moving themselves firmly into the 21st Century by becoming computer programmers. They have been learning how to code games, with many now budding games designers! A big well done to Samee Khan for challenging himself to tackle the binary code, rising to our Riverside Value of being aspirational.
Well done to Year 6 for a fantastic week of learning.

Parent Workshop
Foundation Stage One (Nursery) have been running Literacy and Numeracy Workshops over the last two weeks to support the children's learning. They have had 50% of their parents attending and benefiting from these workshops.
Foundation Stage Two (Reception) have also run a workshop on Literacy and Numeracy this week with parents actually observing the children being taught in these subjects to promote guided support at home. We would like to thank the 52% of parents who attended this session and hope that you gained some insight into the Riverside way of teaching. These workshops are invaluable to your children and give parents the opportunity to ask questions, gain more confidence and enjoy working at home with their children. We look forward to seeing those parents who were unable to attend this time at workshops in the future.

BRAYWICK COURT SCHOOL
Consultation of plans for the exciting development of Braywick Court School started this week. The new purpose build building will enable the school to reach its capacity of 210 pupils and includes seven classrooms, large hall and community room, learning resource centre and meeting room.
The development on the existing site of the former Winbury School will require the school to move to a temporary location for a year and Riverside Primary School and Nursery have invited Braywick Court School to move to a wing of Riverside in September 2016 whilst Braywick School building works are undertaken. RBWM have expanded Riverside from 1 to 2 forms of entry and whilst it has yet to reach capacity, Braywick School hopes to utilise the spare classrooms for its 90 pupils.
Subject to approval it is planned that Braywick School will remain at Riverside for a year before moving back to its new school in September 2017. All of these proposals are of course dependent on Braywick School receiving planning permission for the new building which is due to be submitted to RBWM in February 2016.

Dear All
The year is racing by and very soon the children in Y2 (Beech) and Y6 (Holly) will be doing their SAT tests.
Firstly it is extremely important that the year 6 children attend everyday during testing week as they can only sit the tests on the set days. Testing week is Monday 9th – Thursday 12th May 2016.
Secondly the children must use the remaining time to work hard so they can produce their best work.
Well done to Silver Birch class for having the best attendance record this week at 96.5%.
I am very pleased our netball team won this week and conducted themselves well at the game. I had two lots of visitors (head teachers) from other schools this week and they both commented on how well the children were working in their lessons.
Please make sure children come to school in their coats, hats and gloves as it has been very cold this week.
