December Area Committee Meeting

A reminder that the December South Central Area Committee Meeting will be held on Wednesday 14th December at 3.00 pm. The deadline for your Questions and Motions is Wednesday the 30th of November at 5.00pm.

2017 Community Grant Scheme

The closing date for the 2017 Community Grant scheme has passed. Over 250 applications were received in the South Central Area.The timeline from recommendation to payment is as follows:

Nov.14th – Dec 5thLocal assessments completed

SOUTH WEST INNER CITY AREA OFFICE REPORT

New Public Park, Cork Street

A Part VIII Planning Application for a 0.6 hectare neighbourhood park on the site of the demolished Chamber Court and Weavers Court flats on Cork Street was agreed at the December 2015 City Council meeting. Enabling works (including archaeological investigations) were completed in July. Tenders for the main park works have been received and are being evaluated this month. It is expected that the park will be completed by summer 2017.

Dolphins Barn

Works to create a pop-up linear park in the area between the new boundary wall to the rear of the houses at St. James Terrace and the public footpath was completed in September. A consultant has been appointed to prepare a Public Realm Improvement Plan for Dolphins Barn. A community workshop is scheduled to take place in St. Andrews Community Centre on 28th November.

Crane Street/Sugar House Lane

It is planned to enhance pedestrian access along this important and busy tourist route. The works include the widening of the existing footpaths and the narrowing of the carriageway. A Part 8 planning application was agreed at November City Council meeting with construction likely to commence early next year with a works period of 3 to 4 months.

Newmarket

A Public Realm Improvement Plan for Newmarket Square and its environs is substantially complete. The Plan describes, supports and guides the implementation of improvements to enhance the use and attractiveness of the area. A report in relation to the plan was presented at July’s Area Committee meeting whilst a Part VIII planning application is being finalized at present.

Francis Street

A consultant has been appointed to facilitate the preparation of a Part 8 planning application for the Francis Street Environmental Improvement Scheme. Stakeholder meetings are due to take place this month.

High Street

As part of the Liberties Greening Strategy a series of planters were installed in High Street on 16th September and 12th November.

Re-roofing Programme

The programme to renew the roofs in Thomas Court Bawn, School Street, Marrowbone Lane Flats, Meath Place, Braithwaite Street, South Summer Street and Pimlico Terrace was completed last month. Works to the roof lights, chimneys and tank houses were included.

Oliver Bond House

The upgrade of both playgrounds and the football pitch in Oliver Bond House was completed in the middle of October.

Ceannt Fort, Mount Brown

Following a series of meetings agreement has been reached with local residents for the refurbishment of the play area at Ceannt Fort. It is expected that this work will be carried out in mid December weather permitting.

Ceannt Fort Centenary

Regular meetings are being held with Ceannt Fort Residents Association to plan for celebrations to mark the centenary of the estate built by Dublin Corporation in 1917. The Parks Department have started clearing spaces in the area and the playground will be refurbished before the end of 2016. It is proposed to install new signage with a history of the area at the entrance to the estate. The community development team will support residents to organise a programme of celebrations in 2017.

Bluebell

Following on from the Associated Bluebell Communities AGM a public meeting was held in Bluebell Community Centre to set-up a new environmental group for the area with the slogan: “Our Community working for a Greener Cleaner Bluebell”. Environmental improvements have already started and are ongoing in Grand Canal View where residents have worked with a gardener to plant bulbs and spring flowers.

Inchicore

The City Council is supporting the Inchicore Environmental Group volunteers who regularly organise clean-ups in the area.The Christmas tree lighting ceremony will take place at the Old Bank of Ireland Tyrconnell Road Inchicore on 29th November.The Local Drugs Task Force with the support of the City Council will light their tree on the 5th December at St Michael’s Church Inchicore.

St. Thomas’s Abbey Community Consultations

We are working with the city archaeologist on this project to engage with local interested groups and get their advice and input to a printed booklet which is being prepared for distribution.

St. Luke’s Community Heritage Project

In conjunction with the City Heritage Office the Community staff are working with local interested groups to plan and discuss the new garden proposed at St. Luke’s cemetery and church. A talk on the church and its history will be held in WarrenmountCommunity Educational Development Centre.

Marrowbone Lane

Community Staff are supporting the residents of Marrowbone Lane Flats to restart their Residents Association and deal with pressing issues in the complex.

Dolphin House

Community staff are working with the residents of Dolphin House to develop a programme to photographically document the regeneration of Dolphin House. It’s hoped to have resident participation to capture the development in photographs and put together an exhibition to show the transformation.

CRUMLIN AREA OFFICE

New Children’s Playground – Stannaway Park

A new children’s play area in Stannaway Park is intended to be created. The play area will cater for young children aged between 2 and 7 years of age and it is expected that the works will be carried out and completed early 2017.This small play area will be natural in style to blend in with the grassland of the existing park. Play features will be constructed of natural materials and will be set into the landscape within gentle mounded forms. Seating will be provided as part of the works.

Improvement works at Cashel Avenue and Captains Avenue

Improvement works at Cashel Avenue and Captains Avenue, consisting of new parking zones, new footpaths and a plinth wall surrounding the green are provisionally scheduled to commence on 21st November. A local leaflet drop will take place in advance of the proposed works.

Brickfield Park

Works have begun on the all weather pitch in Brickfield Park and are progressing well. Whilst construction works at this time of year are very much weather dependent, it is expected that the project will be completed by March 2017.

Bunting Park

The boundary hedging surround Bunting Park along Balfe Avenue will be removed and replaced with new railings. These works will be carried out in December 2016.

Winter Weather

The Crumlin Area Office has produced a “Winter Weather” information card with useful numbers particularly for older people. Contact will be made with Resident and Community Groups to encourage them to drop the information cards into older residents in their area during the month of November.

Clonmacnoise Senior Citizens.

The City Council are supporting the residents in Clonmacnoise Grove to renovate the Grotto in the senior citizen's complex. The Walkinstown Men’s shed are building a new structure for the statue and helping the residents clean up the surrounds.

D12 Film Club

The Film Club was set up with the assistance of the Council in 2014. The film club has gone from strength to strength and has over 60 members. This months film is '' its a wonderful life'' which will be held on Saturday 3rd December at 7.30pm in Mourne Road Hall. There will be refreshments and a raffle on the night and new members are welcome.

Alcohol Awareness week

The City Council is supporting the D12LDATF to organise an Alcohol Awareness week in November in the Dublin 12 area. The theme of the week “knows the risks”. The Council is hosting two events:

  • Walkinstown LibraryTalk on Women and Alcohol on Monday the 21st November at 7:30PM
  • Clogher Road SportsSeminar on Sport and Alcohol on Friday 25th of November atCentre 11:00am

BALLYFERMOT AREA OFFICE

LECP Consultation

Dublin City Council and the Ballyfermot/Chapelizod Partnership have completed work on the LECP Consultation. Information received will inform the local and city SICAP plan for 2017.

Ballyfermot Dementia Choir

Choir has been formed and sessions have begun. This is a combined project under Dublin City Council and the South Central Area Age Friendly Alliance. Participants are from Cherry Orchard Hospital, Glenaulin Nursing Home and St Mary’s Nursing Home with residents from Ballyfermot and Chaperlizod.

SCA Network Groups

Meetings continue to be held for South Central Area Mens Network and Environmental Groups Network.
