Intermediates

Report by Conor Doolan

Mentors: Conor Doolan, John Galvin, John Archbold

After avoiding the relegation play offs last season the team got off to a good start and had gained 6 points from their first four matches. However the team struggled with the approach of summer due to exam commitments and student holiday visas. A couple of wins in September saw them move out of the relegation zone but are still not clear.

In the championship, the Intermediates lost to na Fianna 0-16 to 0-9 and looked to be gone from the losers round when trailing St. Sylvesters 2-6 to 0-1 at half-time in Parnell Park. A spirited second half performance saw them snatch a draw with practically the last kick of the game. The replay in O’Toole Park finished level 0-11 apiece and went to extra time. Sylvesters got the upper hand with a goal at the end of the first period of extra time and went on to win by 5 points. In the championship relegation play off the team won at the first attempt overcoming Round Towers of Lusk by 0-13 to 0-8.

The team completed in the annual Templeogue/Synge St tournament, winning their group before going down to St. Brigids of Offaly in the semi-final by 2 points.

Congratulations to David Hughes on making the Dublin Junior panel.

Junior A

Report by Conor Hand

Team manager: Conor Hand

Selectors: Denis Donohue and Tommy Flynn

In division 6, the team has played 13 games so far, winning eight, drawing one and losing four. We have two remaining games against Thomas Davis and St Peregrines. We still have an outside chance of promotion, depending on our final games and results from other games. Promotion was our major goal again this year but it may just escape us yet again.

We are in the final of the Stacey Cup. We drew with St Annes in the final at St Annes ground and now face them in the replay. The drawn match was very keenly contested with our team making a very strong recovery in the second half.

We also reached the quarter final of the Championship.

We have a very good squad of players, producing good attractive football. Injuries at critical times upset our rhythm. This team is good enough to compete at division 5.

We are indebted to Paddy Bates and Niall Brennan for sponsorship during the year.

Update report on Stacey Cup replay (report from Boden website)

Junior A vs St. Anne's
Sunday, 9th November 2008
Result: 2 - 7 to 0 - 6

The Junior A's won a second Stacey Cup Final after a hard fought replay win over St Annes. The A's started nervously in a low scoring first half and found themselves 2 points down after 10 minutes. The gap could have been wider but for a brilliant save from Alan Kennedy, who had to leave the pitch injured soon afterwards. However, Boden started getting on top and two frees from Stephen Fee and a terrific first point of the season from wing back Karol Cronin gave the Juniors a deserved lead. With a minute to go, Annes one a harsh penalty but former Senior Star Ger Flaherty reeled back the years to save it and keep the Boden ahead at half time.

Ballyboden started the second half where they left off and a screamer from Ronan Donohoe gave them a 5 point lead with 8 minutes to go. Annes responded well and got the deficit back to 3 before a superb Liam O Dwyer free and a Ciaran Dempsey goal clinched it for the club.

Team captain was Aaron O'Reilly.

Team: A Kennedy, A O'Reilly(c), B Young, J Fleming, K Cronin, J Corrigan, S Hogan, D Saville, R Donohoe, C Nevin, A Gardiner, J Marrinan, S Fee, C Reade, G Ward. Subs Used: G Flaherty for Kennedy (inj.), C Dempsey for Reade, L O Dwyer for Marrinan, P Bates for Ward, P O Connell for Fee.

Well done to Conor Hand, Tommy Flynn,Denis O'Donoghue and the players involved.

Junior B

Report by Niall Kelly

This team competed in Junior division 9 league, Sheridan Cup and the D championship. The team was managed by Niall Kelly, Noel Lynn and John Doyle.

The team reached the Sheridan Cup semi final, losing by one point to Erins Isle after extra time. There was a second round exit in the championship and we will finish in the top half of the league.

The team had a strong panel at the start of the season but a lot of players went away during the summer which left us short for a number of games. This, I believe, is where we lost the league, being beaten by teams we knew we could have beaten with our full panel. A small number of players who gave up playing for the club returned and are playing a full part in the panel.

To secure the future of this team a number of this year’s minors must be drafted to the panel on block as a number of players will not be playing next season. I was unpleasantly reminded of the practice of managers from other teams telling players they are now on their panel, without contacting the management of the team they are taking the player from.

I would like to thank the three dual players that played with us- Moss Nagle, Ciaran Twomey and Conor McCormack and also the football committee.

On a final note, I would suggest the in-coming committee should highlight the problem of poor fixture planning during the season. On a number of occasions we only played two matches during a month and some months we only played one. If we played every week we could have finished our competitions much earlier. As it stands we have three league matches to play at the worst time of the year.

Minor B

Report by Dave Mellon 24 October 2008

The Minor B team played 12 games and won six approx. We have a very committed bunch of players. Enjoyed a trip to Armagh and played St. Patricks of Newtownhamilton. We won by 8 points. The management team was strengthened with the introduction of a former inter-county Kildare footballer - John Archbold as head of squad development and joint manager. Not enough competitive games was an ongoing problem.

Health and Welfare Issues

Concern had been expressed at recent AGMs about the working of the injury scheme. As a result it was decided that a dedicated person should administer all injury forms across the sections. Jody Moran is performing this task and we thank Jody for his efforts in this important area of player welfare.

In the course of the year, the club purchased a defibrilator. A number of persons have been trained to use it and again our thanks are due to all who give of their time.

Representative honours

Congrats to Conal Keaney, Colin Moran and Declan O’ Mahoney who represented the club on the Dublin senior football team. Also to Davie Hughes and Darren Homan who represented us in the Dublin junior football team who won the All Ireland. Stephen Hiney and Simon Lambert represented us on the Dublin hurling team. Darragh Nelson, Seamus Keane,Sean Gibbons were involved in the Dublin minor panel.
