SAVE THE CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS ROLE PROFILE TITLE: Advocacy Intern TEAM/PROGRAMME: LOCATION: Geneva, Switzerland Global Advocacy Office GRADE: N/A CONTRACT LENGTH: 6 months part-time (80%) CHILD SAFEGUARDING: Level 1: the post holder will not have contact with children and/or young people, or access to personal data about children or young people, as part of their work; therefore, a police check will not be mandatory for this post unless the content of the post changes, in which case the Child Safeguarding level should be reviewed.

ROLE PURPOSE: Save the Children’s Geneva Advocacy Office works to create positive and lasting change for children by ensuring that key child rights, health and humanitarian concerns are taken into account in global policies and processes and that States are held to account for their commitments to children.

The intern will support the Geneva Advocacy Office team in engaging with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as Permanent Missions, multi-stakeholder partnerships and civil society actors.

This internship is a training opportunity for students only.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY :

Duties will include:

• Support Save the Children’s advocacy staff in planning and implementing advocacy strategies on priority child rights, health, humanitarian and migration issues; • Attending and reporting on relevant internal and external meetings in Geneva, including, amongst others, meetings of the Human Rights Council, IOM, OHCHR, OCHA, UNHCR and WHO; • Support the organization and logistics of advocacy meetings, side-events and panel discussions; • Support with internal communications and social media; SAVE THE CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS ROLE PROFILE • Provide logistical support for staff travel and venue arrangements, hospitality and accreditation for conferences, events, workshops and attend when required; • Develop, maintain and update information databases (such as contact lists of permanent missions, UN agencies and civil society) and carry out dissemination of reports, as relevant; and • Other administrative tasks as appropriate within a small office, such as obtaining quotes, monitoring and ordering supplies, data inputting and handling incoming inquiries.

QUALIFICATIONS  Student enrolled in ongoing Master’s level studies in a relevant field, in particular international humanitarian and human rights law, global health and/or international relations.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS  An understanding of the advocacy/policy environment of the UN and other international organizations in Geneva, particularly the Human Rights Council, IOM, OCHA, OHCHR, UNHCR and/or WHO.  A proven ability to work in a professional manner in a multilingual, multifaceted, international setting with limited supervision and a willingness to learn new skills.  Commitment to Save the Children’s values.  Highly organized and able to anticipate needs.  Strong sense of responsibility coupled with teamwork skills.  Excellent spoken and written communication skills.  Fluency in English and French (spoken and written), Spanish or another UN language is an asset.  Computer skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and social media. SAVE THE CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS ROLE PROFILE  Resident in Switzerland with a valid Swiss work permit and right to work in an intern role (student enrolled in a Swiss university).

Terms and Conditions • Part-time (80%) for 6 months, beginning in January 2018 (start date to be agreed). • The Advocacy intern will be paid a stipend of CHF 1’000 per month pro rata rising to CHF 2,000 per month pro rata after successful completion of three months in the role.
