Item / Action
Apologies:
As above
JR advised the group that Brain Roberts may not be attending future meetings. Explained that I would still send him the documentation for the next few meetings in case he wishes to attend.
1) / Practice Update
The practice have lost an ANP – Liz Darlington but have recruited 2 ANP’s. Kevin Hubbard has come back to the practice and Selina Walsh has joined the practice. Liz left because purely for personal and travel reasons but recommended us to Selina when we were advertising.
Selina has been recruited as a clinical manager.
Our practice workforce is now:
6 GP Partners
2 salaried GP’s (Dr Jane and Dr Msayib who leaves at the end of May)
4 ANP’s / NP’s (Kev, Selina, Michaela and Maria)
1 trainee ANP (Honor)
2 Practice Nurses (Laura and Stacey)
2 Assistant Practitioners (Margaret and Susan)
1 Health care assistant (Anthony)
1 Phlebotomist (Lisa – currently on maternity leave)
1 Heath improvement worker (Janet)
We advertised for a salaried GP post and received no applications. A practice down the road has also advertised and received no applicants so it is no reflection on the practice but is a national issue with recruitment.
It is a very difficult time at the moment in GP practice and the pressures on the partners is extremely high.
We still need to educate patients with regards to the role of the ANP/NP’s. it was suggested by the group to have more information on the TV screen in the waiting room and also maybe create an ANP video.
2) / Salford Standards
The Salford Standards has come into GP practice and these are key performance indicators that we have to achieve. These include areas such as:
Medical audits
Access
End of life
PPG engagement
Asylum seekers and non-English speaking patients. AS is working on a new policy for registering non-English speaking patients with other local practices. This will give the patient an appointment to come into the practice to register when the practice can organise an interpreter to explain the services and processes within the practice. For example – how to make and cancel appointments. How to order prescriptions. Explain to the patient that everything that is said to the staff is completely confidential. We are also looking at having an A4 handout which explains this in writing in their language for them to take away and keep. We are hoping that this will then help them when they need to see a doctor / nurse.
3) / Questionnaires
Hand out passed around and attached to the minutes
The national patient survey is not a true reflection of the practice as we are unsure as to how many questionnaires have been completed and returned.
The telephones have dropped again in Jan 16, and some other areas have also slightly dropped. In total we have less reds in Jan 2016 than we did I July 2015 which is a good sign.
Friends and Family Questionnaire
This is sent out each month by text with a link to the questionnaire and to the link on the practice website. We average around 60 responses per month which is a good result as other practices do not have this many responses.
The group have decided to remove question 3 as the group feel that the main issue is that patients can see a GP and not necessarily a certain GP when they are poorly and that they receive good treatment. Question 4 will also be removed as this will be a priority for the PPG to look at as one of their priorities for 2016.
4) / Priorities for 2016 / 2017
The group feel that they work very well together and looking ahead we need to look at what we feel are the main priorities for the group / practice for 2016 2017.
We feel we need to concentrate on creating our own questionnaires to gain useful evidence so we can monitor the good and not so good things, this will give us active feedback so we can act and monitor areas to ensure that we are doing everything we can to improve these.
The group feel that if we can encourage more patients to use the self-check in screens to reduce the queue at the reception desk. The group are looking at spending time in the reception area and speaking to patients to help where possible.
We feel that more patients in the PPG would be beneficial to bring new idea’s into the group. Practice and GP’s to advertise and promote this. Practice admin team and PPG to look at the number of possible members and shortlist if necessary. We have had the application form on the website to encourage patients to join for the past 12 months. The PPG feel that if we can actively promote and then possible applicants can be invited to a meeting where a short presentation can be delivered to ensure it is something that they can commit to engaging with. This needs to be time efficient for PPG and practice staff.
The PPG group are also wanting to look at reducing the amount of appointments and try promote the minor ailments scheme by speaking to patients.
EPS (electronic prescription service) – we have had issues with EPS for a period of time but have received little assistance from INPS to investigate and resolve the matter. This is an area where we are hoping that by gaining information from patients now and then after we have investigated the matter, will show an improvement for the patients.
AS informed the group that we are still engaging with Productive General Practice and this will be one of the areas that we look into. The first area will be pathology results and then referrals. We can then look at EPS.
5) / A.O.B.
JG mentioned that we still have patients completing forms at the reception desk, WD will speak to reception staff re this.
It was also mentioned that some elderly patients are going to the reception desk once they have been seen by a GP as they have forgotten what has been said to them. IB informed the group that if he has any concerns that the patients may forget what he has told them, he writes this down for them to take home. He will mention this at a partner meeting to see if any other GP’s do this and to suggest it to them.
Next years meeting dates: All starting at 5.30pm unless stated otherwise
Monday 1st August 2016
Monday 5th December 2016
