“PURSUING VICTORY WITH HONOR”

Character & Ethics Code of Conduct

Coach*Parent*Player

Sports and recreational play is a big part in the lives of many youth of our communities. A positive athletic experience has the potential to promote the quality of life by placing emphasis on ethics and character building. Besides coaches and players, parents, also have an opportunity to enhance and improve not only the level of play in athletic competition, but the quality of character development in the lives of young athletes as well. Many competitive and recreational athletic programs in our surrounding communities pledge to support and implement principles founded on the premise that “sports can and should enhance the character and uplift the ethics of the nation.” We must all work together to achieve these crucial goals to maintain integrity of youth, sports and the community as a whole. We encourage coaches, parents and players to provide positive support, care and encouragement to youth participating in competitive sports by following the following Character & Ethics Code of Conduct:

As a coach/manager in this program I hereby pledge to live up to my certification in the “Pursuing Victory with Honor” campaign code of ethics:

*I will place the emotional and physical well being of my players ahead of a personal desire to win.

*I will lead by example in demonstrating fair play, integrity and sportsmanship to all my players.

*I will provide a sports environment for my team that is free of drugs, tobacco, alcohol and profanity and I will refrain from their use at all youth sports events.

*I will be knowledgeable in the rules of the sport that I coach, and I will teach these rules to my players.

*I will promote good sportsmanship and foster the development of good character in my players to help them become more socially responsible.

*I WILL REMEMBER THAT THIS IS A YOUTH SPORT, AND THAT THE GAME IS FOR THE CHILDREN AND NOT THE ADULTS.
