Concerned Black Clergy Salute to Black Mothers Luncheon Honoring Metro Women for the 19th Year

Atlanta City Council President Lisa Borders among Honorees

ATLANTA – Atlanta City Council President Lisa M. Borders will receive the Concerned Black Clergy of Metropolitan Atlanta’s “President’s Award” Saturday, October 27 at the organization’s annual luncheon at the downtown Hyatt Regency Hotel, 265 Peachtree St., Atlanta 30303.

Borders is being honored along with seven other women who have given tirelessly to the community, business, church and family during TheConcerned Black Clergy of Metropolitan (CBC)Atlanta Salute To Black Mothers Celebration. Theannual luncheon willbe held at 12 noon.

About Atlanta City Council President Lisa Borders

An Atlanta native, Lisa Borders worked in the health care arena for over 15 years. She served as the Chief Administrator for Atlanta Women’s Specialists and also served as VP-Operations for Healthcap Atlanta (a Physician Practice Management Company acquired by FPA Medical Management).

President Borders has worked in her community primarily focusing on family issues in the areas of education, healthcare and housing. She serves as a trustee at The Westminster Schools, a board member at Clark Atlanta University, and as a director of Saint Joseph’s Healthcare System. She is a member of Leadership Georgia and recruits and interviews students for her alma mater, Duke University, where she also serves on the Board of Visitors. She has also served on the boards of Research Atlanta, the Georgia Budget and Policy Institute, Teach For America, Great Schools Atlanta and The Salvation Army.

Borders has served as President of the Atlanta City Council since August 10, 2004 to fill an unexpired term. She was re-elected by an overwhelming margin in November 2005. Her community initiatives include increasing the availability of affordable housing, addressing community healthcare needs, uncovering transportation solutions to the region’s traffic challenges, and promoting neighborhood safety and preservation.

She holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Duke University (Durham, NC) and a Masters of Science in Health Administration from the University of Colorado (Denver, CO). She is the mother of one son, She has one son, Garry, who is recent graduate with honors from Georgia State University.
