The Boise National Forests will soon be advertising a NEPA Planner GS-401-11 position. This position is a permanent full time position and the duty station is located at the Supervisor’s Office in Boise, Idaho.

THE POSITION

This position functions as a National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Planner on the Boise National Forest. The position will be located in the Supervisor Office in Boise, ID and have responsibility for assigned projects across the Forest. Duties include:

·  Provides on-going direction to Interdisciplinary Team during the development of the documents from beginning to completion. Ensures the NEPA documents created by the interdisciplinary team are developed in accordance with applicable law, regulation and policy.

·  Reviews NEPA documents and specialist reports. Coordinates higher-level reviews as needed.

·  Develops and implements public involvement and public scoping strategies.

·  Develops and provides opportunities for public collaboration and partnerships.

·  Serves as contact for facilitating the project planning efforts between inter—and intra-agency organizations.

·  Provides review of NEPA documents and reports for adequacy to meet requirements of Federal laws and regulations for Boise Forest activities.

·  Provides NEPA mentoring and advice to Forest and contracting personal; provides oversight, and monitors expenditure of NEPA projects assigned.

·  Provides coordination for NEPA appeals and objection process; provides guidance for managing NEPA process to resource staff;

·  Coordinates Schedule of Proposed Action updates; manages NEPA email inbox; assists with NEPA training, data stewardship and file management. The NEPA Planner reports directly to the Forest Natural Resource Planner also located in the Supervisor’s Office.

·  When needed, acts as contracting officer’s representative (COR) for NEPA contracts. Based on environmental analyses develops contract statement of work.

The Boise National Forest is located north and east of the city of Boise, Idaho. There are 6 offices; the Forest Supervisor's Office in Boise and Ranger District offices in Mountain Home, Idaho City, Cascade, Lowman and Emmett, Idaho.

Size: about 2,612,000 acres

Topography: Elevations range from 2,600 to 9,800 feet. The mountainous landscape developed through uplifting, faulting, and stream cutting. Most of the land lies within the Idaho Batholith, a large and highly erodible geologic formation.
