Mrs. Ryan S Homework Policy

Mrs. Ryan’s Homework Policy

Homework assignments are written on the board daily. Students are responsible for writing these in their agenda. I will check agendas often and reward those who are filling them out at the end of the day. When needed, I will check agendas individually and initial them. I will ask parents to do the same. Please let me know if you think your child could use some help with organization.

Homework is always due the day after it is assigned with the exception of projects and some long-term assignments. In those cases, I will give the due date to the students as soon as possible with plenty of notice. It will also be written on the board as well as on the weekly goal sheet.

Late work results in 10 pts. off for each day it is late, and will no longer be accepted after the third day. The work will need to be completed as knowledge builds upon previous work. For each late assignment, students will receive a mark in the discipline book for me to use as a tracking system for late work.

Each month the fifth grade students are rewarded for having fewer than three marks in the discipline book. These rewards consist of recess, movies, game days, etc., Those not attending will be in a designated study hall room. We also participate in the school-wide program where Mr. Grimm randomly rewards students for their good behavior.

If a student earns an “F” on a test, they must correct and return the paper for a passing grade. The corrections are due back the very next morning after the paper is returned to the student. An exception to correcting is true or false questions or other instances in which there are only two possible answer choices.

I send papers home on a weekly basis and homework is always graded and returned to the student within that week. Projects may take longer to grade. You should be looking for a “Friday Envelope” that will contain all of the work that was completed that week as well as a goal sheet for the following week. Please sign on the line dated for that week, on the outside of the envelope, indicating that you have seen the papers and the goal sheet for the following week.

I have learned that these procedures do work and keeps everyone informed as to what is happening in our classroom. I am looking forward to a great year!!
